Hey~~ The ball is now rolling "Million Cancer Survivors Walk"
As my friend BUZZARD says~~ "Million Cancer Survivors Walk" for Cancer Awareness....Relays for Life are the utmost, but still there is not the PUSH-SHOVE attitude taken by government to wipe out this horrible disease. We even through this site are a strong, bunch, a dedicated crew. We show it through pain , suffering, and the not so simple act of survival. We need desperately to rise to the occasion. Can we not make this happen in 1 calendar year. That gives us ample time to spread the word throughout this Nation and it can be done. We are cancer survivors, we can do anything we want, we have fought and won larger battles than this would be. Pessimist or Optimist when you feel like something of this magnitude would be an overwhelming task to accomplish, think of Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, Neil Armstrong, how do you think these people got not only national attention, but world-wide attention.
Lets roll!!

Facebook reaches Millions of people all over the world, what better way to reach out and get this going... My wife stays on there all the time in farmville. I will inform her to start reaching out as well. I haven't been or joined facebook but will do things through my wife's account until I figure out what I need to get started with it. I also need to get a set date and time. I am throwing the idea around to do a Nation/World wide walk at the same time but in each individual state, country or continent to accommodate people that have trouble with simple day to day survival, that enables them to be a physical part of a dream that may happen in their lifetime and allows them to be able to afford it without the cost of airfare, rooms, etc. Most people in this treatment may not be able to handle the expense and we have to include everyone that is a survivor, caregiver,or anyone that is adamant to the cause of Stepping for a Cure. Combining all states may make all survivors eligible for enabling them to maybe be able to make a 10-250 mile drive to attend theirs in their state, which will occur the same time and day in every state so that it is a combination and culmination of power in numbers. We have to start talking with Media, we have to start advocating to everyone about the "Million Cancers Survivors Walk" "Stepping for a Cure". This beast delves into every facet of our lives. If you do survive it then there are still financial issues that are left to deal with. Homes, retirements lost because of the enormity of debt incurred just by co pays alone, much less loss of jobs, emotional issues etc. The list goes on and on. I was almost one of these tragedies and if I was to re occur it would be the same for me. The first time broke me, the second time will ruin me. We have to stop this somehow, we simply have to.
Sorry for the rambling, its just something that I have become obsessed with and I will with the help of my friends here and all cancer survivors (and for JR.. that's anyone diagnosed and still alive.....:) )...make this happen ....Thank you Brooks, and everyone else that has persevered this dreaded disease for being the people you are...survivors in the battle...To all of you, please PM, post, email, or anyway you want to present ideas or things you are doing to facilitate this happening, I need all the ideas I can get to make this become real, and its my dream of all that are affiliated in someway with this disease to have a day when all of us are showing our solidarity to end the hardships, both physically, mentally, and financially that this disease causes......Love to all of you and may 2010 be "the Year of the Cure".......Buzz0 -

Don't worry about the rambling. You are right on the money...or lack of, in lots of cases. My job and paycheck ceased to be the day I was admitted to the hospital. I'm lucky so far as I had a little bit buried in a coffee can in the back yard but it is going fast. For instance, my insurance paid every 2 wks over 10k for my infusions. No cost to me. Now that I will be on Xeloda I must pay $120.00 every 2 wks because they are pills...peanuts to some, but my coffee can is empty.
On the other hand, I am revved up about this "Stepping for a cure" and hope I can participate. A few years ago I was interviewed by Woman's Day magazine when they were doing an article on autoimmune disease.Just an idea...contact some of the magazines to get the word out. There are some very informed people on this forum who could do an excellent interview.

Buzzard, So true!
This month, with our tax refund, I paid the last amount owed to my surgeon and three bills to people I'm not sure what they did. I THINK everything is finally paid in full, 13 months after dx and surgery! Actually, I owed a facility fee and couldn't get my colonoscopy scheduled until we tracked that bill down at some collection agency. Now waiting for a call back once the all clear is sent to the office.
Last year, 1/5th of our income went to my doctor bills and co pay and the hospital had a foundation that paid my co pays to them!
There's a lot more to cancer than many people know. Well said, Clift!0 -

I am awestruck by the amount of positive attention this is getting..I am also dumbfounded by the way that people picked this up and ran with it. I am having to run to keep track of everything that is happening. Brooks, Thank you for the Facebook entry, it is growing every hour...everyone so far has taken it so well, I am speaking with a lawyer Sunday (our church has one as a member) to see what all legal ramifications there might be to maybe starting a foundation as one of my "buds" brought up. The dream is to maybe be able to help as well others with other needs besides just cancer co pays and such...Lodging, gas, bills, it is so overwhelming right now but with the help of everyone and some people on here I really think its going to come to reality...
We all have hard times every once in a while, but to go through this which destroys families and lives, and then have the inability to pay simple household bills after you have fought for your life and have heat, lights, gas, phone,or even computer cut off because medical bills have consumed every penny you have and any more you ever expect to come up with, its absolutely ridiculous, no its absolutely heartbreaking...and there are people in here right now loosing their homes because of trying to pay the bills that cancer leaves them along with the disability to work because of the way that this disease disables you...
Sorry, Im getting started again, I am just sick of hearing the sad stories that tear families apart because of this disease...The American Cancer Society is moving along so gracefully in all its endeavors to fight this dreaded disease, yet even it has its limits on what it can do. Maybe, just maybe, this will enable us someday soon to do just a little more for those that are a little less fortunate than others. That is the bottom line in this endeavor. To maybe make one life a little easier to live with by doing something that may be insignificant to some, but enormous to others.....
Thats all for now....Love to you all, and may 2010 be the year of "The Cure"0 -

I have to get in today and see this...My wife admitted to me last night when I asked her about searching for it that she was trying to stay away from all things cancer, that makes her sad. Well, I guess I understand her situation but I don't know how to get in there and find it...Where theres a will though theres a way. I am gonna create my own FB page ...Thanks again Brooks...and I am getting more mail, thanks all for the help on this...I am looking for a March Date to go full blown with this...and sometimes in March for the Walk to happen........I may be asking for 1 or more reps in each state to do some of the media attention getting for the walk planned March 2011...also to start maybe emailing friends and having them email their friends etc etc to get out the word . We will try and keep all of this posted up so that everyone can keep abreast of things happening. All brainstorming is more than welcome, you are all a part of this, you are survivors......Thanks again guys and gals.....Buzz0
