For neuropathy
I took extra B6 vitamins during the second half of my chemo and for several months afterward because it was supposed to help with the peripheral neuropathy I had in my fingers and toes from Taxol treatments. I don't know if it helped or not - it never got any worse that it was after the first treatment, but the oncologist and nutritionist both suggested it.0 -
Supplements
Hi,Penny. After I started experiencing numbness and tingling in my feet/legs, my oncologist advised 50mg of B6 per day. Within 24 hours of starting B6, the symptoms were considerably lessened. I have been taking B6 ever since, with only very mild neuropathy symptoms from time to time.
After my first TAC treatment, my potassium dropped dangerously. I had to come in for an emergency infusion. Since then, I've taken 10 meq of Potassium twice a day. That keeps my potassium levels in normal range.
Finally, I do take Citracal and 1000IU of Vitamin D3 daily, per the advice of my radiation oncologist. Glad you started this thread--reminds me that I need to ask for my D levels to be checked again. Best time is Dec-Feb for true readings, per the onc. This is for us seasonal folks, of course.
Re multivitamins, I stopped taking per doc orders during chemo and rads. Haven't started again out of irrationality: NED is with me so far, and I don't want to feed any beastly cells. Like I said, irrational. I probably need to ask my onc.
Hope this helps.0
