Liver resection

I'm scheduled for a liver resection next week. Very confident in the surgeon and procedure. Thnking of NOT doing chemo after. I had chemo and rad in 2008.....for the cancer that ended up spreading to my liver. Anyone else OPTED out of chemo and doing great????

My surgery is the 9th of Feb at OHSU. I'm in Oregon, and it's considered one of the best!

I was diagnosed with an anal cancer in April of 08. Had chemo and rad. During the scans they saw a small spot on my lung....watched it.....watched it....then in Oct it changed enough to biopsy. came back a completely different cancer from the anal. Had a 1/5 of my lung removed on New Years Eve of 08. 2 cancers in one year. Nothing spread to lymph nodes on either one. Both caught early, felt very blessed! Then spots on the liver that they have also been watching.....2 changed on my one year lung scan in December. Biopsy....cancer again. Found out New Years Eve this year on the way to celebrate one year survival of lung cancer. WHEW.... this is making me tired HAHAHAHA. Soooooo oncologist recommends chemo....I put off the appt to start for an extra week than he wanted, to have a party and take a trip to the beach with my girls....in that amount of time ( the extra week).....I was literally brought information and doctors names on a daily basis. I felt the angels were at work, and there was a powerful message being sent to me to have surgery first. I, through all this info that was literally being brought to me, was connected to a Surgical Oncologist that specializes in cancers that met to the liver. Called him right away, and had my records sent to him. In the next couple of days, I checked him out by calling my lung surgeon, who I thought the world of...he HIGHLY recommended him..my surgeon from my anal cancer called me and asked what the plan was. When I told him I was set up to have my port in by him on Monday and start chemo Fri, but in the meantime I had been referred to Dr Billingsley....he said "Don't do a thing until you see him....he is one of the best. Cancel your appt with me, and cancel chemo until after you see him".....so again, everything was leading me in this direction. I strongly believe that the prayers of family and friends were working!! I'm not 100% sure I would not choose chemo after.....but I too am using not really alternative, but naturopath and seeing a dietician. I have a lot of confidence in this surgeon, and will see what he thinks after the surgery.....but I sure appreciate hearing someone who has gone through similar!! My daughters are very uneasy with the "no chemo" attitude.
Going from stage 1 to a 4 as well.....kinda hits hard doesn't it???? 51 and never even had a doctor prior to April of 08....just my one year fun with the gynecologist!
How were you treated for your colon cancer? Did you have surgery? What state do you live in ??? Questions....questions!!!!

liver resection
My husband was originally diagnosed as 3B colon cancer in August 2007. He had surgery and 6 months of folfox. In July of 2009 they found a tumor in his liver and 2 enlarged lymph nodes. He started back on folfox with avastin in August of 2009. He had 7 chemos with oxaliplatin and then 3 more without the oxaliplatin. The last was December 2, 2009. We consulted 3 liver surgeons and all three agreed to do a liver resection and remove the lymph nodes, too. He had surgery on January 21st. The PET he had before surgery didn't light up at all and there wasn't much tumor area to remove so the liver resection was small. There was very minimal active cancer in the lymph nodes per the surgeon. Our oncologist has recommended no more chemo at this time. We consulted a second guy at the U of Chicago and he agreed. They felt that the 10 chemos he had before surgery were enough for now and that he needs time to recover. He's excited about any time off chemo. I'm nervous about this but our oncologist looks at a metastasis differently than someone who has never had chemo before. He's also very well respected. The tumor board at the hospital where he had the liver resection was split over the issue of more chemo right now.
