Any other had loss of voice after lung cancer surgery

I lost my voice after removal of top left lobe of lung and 8 cent tumer along with three ribs. Doctor told me right vocal coard is paralized and will never return that it is prerminate. Have any others had this problem. Well I survived the surgery and still in alot of discomfort but still kicking. Start chemo tomorrow and hope i can take I know my insurance has already been socked for over $96000.00. Doctor cant find any other cancer in my body since the surgery he just wants to do the chemo to make sure that the cancer growth does not return. I feel so out of controll by placing my trust totaly in the doctors hands. I have always been the type that I controll all events in my life. Hard to get used to someone else in controll. Hope it all turns out the best for me. God Bless all that ever read what I say here.



went to doctor today and now a postponement until wednesday so won't start chemo until 10th of feb. Ok I get so tired of the delays. But not gonna get this old buzzard down.

LOSS OF VOICE AFTER LUNG CANCER SURGERY
I had my left lung removed in 2005. During the process, the breathing tube they inserted during the surgery caused left vocal cord paralysis. I have had a couple of procedures which involved inserting substances into my left vocal cord to bring it closer to the right one. This will improve the quality of the voice. The most recent surgery inserted fat into the vocal cord. The problem is that it won't last forever. I am at the point where I need to go in for a "tune up". Depending on your situation, each surgery should last a few years which isn't too bad. The hospital that did the lung surgery in Boston referred me to a specialist for the vocal cord surgery at Mass Eye and Ear in Boston.

I had my upper left lobe removed in October and my vocal cords were paralyzed. I'm talking a little better, but kind of huffy and breathy. This also caused problems when eating. I'm taking it one day at a time.

I start chemo tomorrow and again a total stranger to chemo. Guess I will find out tomorrow. All this is a strain on my mind and nerves. After chemo I will look into a good e.n.t. doctor and see if they can fix my voice a little. Thanks for the info.

Look right above your post and seems there is some kind of hope to get some kind of voice back.
Beats nothing after I get thru chemo I am gonna look into a E.N.T. to see what they can do for me.

Loss of Voice
I have a left vocal cord paralized also, but it happened on my 4th operation, and 4th tube run down my throat for the operation. I REALLY feel like they DIDN'T use care in running that tube down my throat as my Voice was fine before the last operation and was fine thru 3 others. BUT, these Doc's WON'T tell on another, if one messed up. I have non small cell Lung cancer and these operations were for Lung and Heart problems. Nothing was actually removed except Liquid build up AND my Voice now. Ron

Paralyzed vocal cord
My left vocal cord was paralyzed for almost two years and is getting back to normal now that my tumor is gone. The persistant laryngitis is the thing I went to the doctor for in the first place and a CT scan of my throat happened to catch the top of the tumor in my left lung. The tumor was pushing on the vocal cord and once the tumor was gone after much radiation and chemo, my voice started to return. My oncologist thought all along that if could get rid of the tumor, my voice would get better. My surgeon said after being paralyzed that long it would never come back and he was so sure that he had a bet going with my oncologist. The oncolgist won, but I am not sure what the prize was! My radiation oncologist didn't take a stand either way, however he leaned toward thinking I may always have pretty much just a whisper. All in all, I am so glad I can order through the drive up windows again!
