Update on "being done"
Unrelated subject. I have a friend who has BC, worked at the same place for 5 yrs. She pretty much worked the whole time during all treatments. All of a sudden her work has been harassing her. She works for a medical/free clinic. They now have switched her to another dept that shes not familiar with and unsure of the computer work needed. She questioned her new super an they suspended hr for two days for insubornation. What would her course of action be? She has consulted the EEOC. She's waiting to hear back. Any other avenues? She has never been written up or dissaplined in the 5 yrs she's been there. She feels it's a matter of time, they will fire her. This is her only source of income and insurance. She has a fiancee, but they live in separate households. Any answers? Is this illegal? Thanks for your input, sisters of the pink. Love, peace and happiness, Gayla

As a cancer survivor she now comes under the Disability Act so she may get help there as well. There was a post back in Dec. on this that had a lot of good suggestions. I can't remember the title of the post. Maybe someone else will remember.0 -

If you just google the Disability Act, you will find all kinds of information there. I think it is about time that they added us to that Act. Good luck to your friend!0 -

Sorry to hear that
It's so discouraging to think that anyone would be discriminated against because of their health, but that's why they put the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in place.
I work in Human Resources, so feel free to PM me and I'd be happy to give you more detailed advise based on her situation if you like.
In general, it's a good idea for her to document every work-related conversation, print out e-mails, etc. that she thinks is related to any discrimination. Notes made at the time of any incident will generally hold more weight than notes made later to support her case.
Good luck,
Cindy0 -

Yes, we had a good discussion on similar situation, Unfortunately story goes over and over again. Pleas try to find that old post it has many good ideas and advices. Yes it is discrimination, especially she is in treatment, She need to avoid disciplinary actions to be eligible for severance, unemployment and Cobra. Also if she Stage III or IV she can file for social security disability benefits go on short term disability if her employer has this option.
Good luck0 -
