Cisplatin and Etoposide?

Has anyone had Cisplatin and/or Etoposide for Hodgkin's? My husband has had 5 cycles of ABVD and his PET is still positive (SUV=2.5-3.0). The onco said 1 more cycle of ABVD then 3 weeks rest. If the PET after that is still positive then he'll get 1-2 cycles of Etoposide and Cisplatin. After he has finished all chemo then he'll get radiation. Just looking for anyone that has had any experiences that are similar with this so called "curable" cancer.

    Hey jynx,
    I had those drugs as part pf a 24/7 chemo therapy regimin in 2008....they were very effective...shrank a tumor into NED between the 2nd and 3rd treatment. As far as I was concerned it was just another chemo therapy, makes you sick...kills cancer cells, hell that's what it's all about. I hate cancer sooo much..I'll try anything just to show that **** disease who's boss....and to give encouragement to other people that it can be done, that they too can tolerate it, and that it's effective.
    Been there...done it.

    Just curious, did you have
    Just curious, did you have to have a stem cell transplant afterwards? My husband's doctor hasn't said anything about transplants just high dose chemo to get rid of the giant tumor. Thanks for your reply, it's comforting to hear from someone else who has been through this. I'm glad it worked for you!

    Hi,

    I had both of those chemos too. It was part of the RICE/DICE treatment. I received Rituxin, then the other chemos almost every day. I was admitted for a 24 hr dose then given another dose the following day. I also had radiation trmts during the last two of my treatments. My onc did want me to have a transplant. But I never did. I have been in remission for 14 months with no problems. I see my Onc on a 2-3 weekly basis. I was at the office last week. My blood counts continue to be great.

    So, I am proof that Cisplatin and Etoposide work. It's been doing its job for over a year with no transplant.

    In 2008 I had a recurrance
    In 2008 I had a recurrance of a nhl cancer I had in 2000. The common wisdom is that once nhl recurs it will continue to recur with shorter NED periods in between. The stem cell transplant has proven to be very effective in preventing the recurrances...with this type of cancer. So I did it. So far, so good. Nearly a year out since the transplant and still NED.
