PHILADELPHIA -- Teddy Pendergrass, who became R&B's reigning sex symbol in the 1970s and '80s with his forceful, masculine voice and passionate love ballads and later became an inspirational figure after suffering a devastating car accident that left him paralyzed, died Wednesday at age 59.

The singer's son, Teddy Pendergrass II, said his father died at a hospital in suburban Philadelphia. The singer underwent colon cancer surgery eight months ago and had "a difficult recovery," his son said.


I loved his music. My thoughts and prayers are with his family.

    I was just checking in here to post about Teddy. I loved his music, too. I'm sad to lose another semi-colon.

    I saw that on
    the news this morning angel and i really liked his music and barry white also. Sad Day

    Car accident
    I heard that too today. He had been paralyzed from the waist down in that car accident in the 80's. I wonder if that complicated his recovery form the surgery...

    That's what I was thinking Phil
    His son said he was having a hard time recovering from cc surgery. Maybe complications from surgery instead of cc spreading.... I guess it's potato ... potato type stuff or Dan Quayle's potatoe.
