Peritoneal Carcinomatosis Treatment

I have Stage IV Peritoneal Carcinomatosis metasticized in 2008 from breast cancer that I had in 2001. I first had Taxol for 8 months, then was put on the hormonals Arimidex and then Aromasin, neither of which was working. Now I am going to have Navelbine/Gemzar chemotherapy. Has anyone had this combination? Would love to hear what, if any, side effects you may have had. Please reply, as I am really nervous about having to go back on chemotherapy again. My thoughts and prayers are with all of you who are dealing with this terrible disease, and I wish you all the best in 2010!

    Carolyn,

    I have not received this treatment for mine. I know that you are scared knowing that yet another chemo treatment. Please ask your doctor every question you have. If you do not remember this when you visit please call and ask them. You will need to do everything that you can to make yourself feel better.

    Sorry I've not heard of your treatment but I wish you the best of luck. I have Priamry Peritoneal Carcinoma and am being treated with chemo IV. I would like to hear about your progress so please keep using this forum. Lots of best wishes Tina xxxx

    I am sorry about your diagnosis. I was diagnosed with stage 4 Peritoneal Appendiceal Carcinoma in 4/09. After 6 months on FOLFOX, I had cytoreduction with HIPEC surgery in 10/09. I am just now getting back on my feet. Surgery was the best route for me, but not for all.

    Hello,
    My 51 year old brother was recently diagnosed with peritoneal carcinomatosis (stage 4) cancer. He has started chemo (FOLFOX) for a month but has lost about 70 pounds from this disease. We are Hoping that he become a candidate for a HIPEC treatment. Is there any
    advise that you can give...I would appreciate it.

    Hi all: As I've said in another post, I have secondary peritoneal carcinoma (origin gallbladder cancer). I did 6 months of cisplatin/gemzar (gemcitibine) and had few problems re side effects - some low white blood counts corrected by Neulasta shots, some fatigue, but overall good. Didn't work for the 6 nodules on the peritoneum though so now am on folfoxfiri regime - oxaliplatin/irenotecan/5FU - infusion and pump/leucovin - lots more side effects with this regime. My surgeon and oncologist applied to have me receive the debulking surgery with HIPEC treatment in Calgary, Canada, but I was not eligible (I am 67 and they have not had much luck with gallbladder cancer origins). From what my surgeon told me, one should be in pretty good condition to undergo the surgery (if he wants to have the debulking too)as the surgery can last 10 hours and recovery takes awhile. He is young enough for it but the surgeons will know if he is fit enough and what he can do to become fit. Good luck!

    HIPEC Treatment
    I am not sure where you live but I would like to recommend that you call Dr. Paul Sugarbaker in Washington, DC. He is the subject matter expert when it comes to HIPEC. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Appendiceal Cancer in 2008. He performed my 11-1/2 hour surgery in 2009. Since my surgery, I have not shown any further sign of the disease. He is now doing a clinical trial with other peritoneal cancers.

    If you can't see Dr. Sugarbaker, I would also recommend Dr. Sardi or Dr. Esquivel that are located in Baltimore.
