Wazzat got to do with "health care reform"?
Hi John
IMO for a major insurance company to suddenly offer lower rates ( i.e. lower than last year etc) to the only cancer center in three southern California counties leads to the center refusing to contract with them ( work for less and less money).
This may reflect what will happen if the "health care reform" results in insurance companies having to pay for hi dollar patients without requiring a certain level of provider compensation.
They can avoid high risk patient dollars by offering low dollars and not even getting contracts at all which may be their plan.
If they lower their reimbursement rates they can keep more money for those hi exec compensations by getting out of covering hi risk patients.
I think that the gov should require insurance companies to reimburse ALL providers a living wage and not be in the game of negotiating.
When I was a provider and managed care appeared on the scene my reimbursement rate slowly declined to 50% of what it was before managed care.
