My Dad has been admitted into UVA hospital
This is sudden news to all of us. My dad, Ray, was admitted into the hospital on Tuesday 12/15. He had a bout with constipation last week, we got through that, and then he developed a severe pain in his right side, and was turning jaundice. Took him to his primary dr. Dr. did blood and urine tests. They showed that his billirubin count was high, and he had blood in the urine. Dr. sent him immediately for an ultra sound. Wanting to rule out gallstones. The ultra sound showed no stone, but did show the bile duct to be enlarged, and lesions on his liver. Dr now wanted him admitted into hospital. Got him into the hospital, he is dehydrated, jaundice, and anemic. He spent the day yesterday getting 2 pints of blood and fluids.
When I left him last night, his color was not as yellow, and his urine was not as dark. He said he was starting to not feel as weak as before.
This morning, or sometime today he will be getting an mri. This will show much more detail than the ultrasound. After this, he will be getting a scope done to check out the bile duct, and have a stint put in the duct to drain the bile.
The drs are most positive that the EC has now spread to his liver. They also said that this cancer is treatable with chemo.
I have been the strong one so far. I am the one with the most faith in the family. I have even been able to accept the fact that my dad may be dying.
Please keep us all in your prayers. I will keep you posted as I can.
Love,
Tina

Thank you all for your prayers and thoughts. On Tuesday 12/21 dad had a stent put in his esophagus, and a stent put in his blocked bile duct. We brought him home on Wednesday, 12/23. So far so good. We are taking this one hour at a time. He goes back to primary dr on the 28th for blood work, and to the ongologist on the 4th. After he recovers from this, we will be dealing with the lesions found on his liver. Please continue to prayer for us!

Thank you Shelly and William. You are so full of useful information! Dad had his check up with his primary dr. today. All is better! Each day dad gets stronger. Today he said his energy level was at 50% and his pain level was at a 3. Heck, I will take that over 0% and a pain level between 8 and 10!! Thanks again for this info, I will keep this in mind. We go back to UVA on Monday 1/4. Thanks for the prayers for us caregivers too! Mom and I are sometimes running on half a tank! I thank god for my strong faith. My faith has got me through this so far. Keep in touch.
