Surgery update

Hi, had my surgery yesterday and it went fine. The 4 needle sticks in nuclear med were like slight bee stings, they don't give you a numbing med for it. Surgery took about 3 hours since I had an expander put in. I have 2 drains which I drain myself. They found some cancer cells in one of my lmph nodes and I believe they took 4 out total. I should have pathology results tomorrow or by Friday. I have pain but this percocet is doing its job. Don't know if I'll need chemo or radiation or how much of any, but I'm ready to do whatever I need to. I'm about to go take more percocet that I take every 4 hours. I don't wait for the pain to come back in full strength. I have also received lots of goodies from the hospital like a litle underarm pillows, journals, and a camisole. Take care everyone and thanks so much for your prayers! I'll be resting for a few days...

So glad to hear your surgery went well. My NM tech tried to humor me by telling me there was a numbing agent in the shots. NO there wasn't!! It wasn't that bad though. That's good you don't have to wait too long for the results. You go rest up & get well & let us know how you're doing.

Rene, so glad to hear surgery is over and you sound so upbeat. That's so encouraging for all of us still facing surgery. Thanks for letting us know how you're doing and hope all the rest comes back good. Rest up now and take good care of yourself. Post when you know what your results are and we're praying for good results.

Hi everyone. My doctor just called and said they did get all of the 4cm tumor during the masectomy. She also said with the 4 lymph nodes that were removed, 2 of them had cancer, therefore, I will need chemo. So, now I will get my hair cut in a short bob and have a wig cut the same way. She explained the tumor was 4cm, she'll refer me to an Oncologist and I will start treatment after I heal. In the meanwhile, I am feeling okay, still working this percocet. The drains are not a problem either. Then, I'm proud of myself because even though I am under so much stress, I managed to to make an "A" in both of my doctoral classes. I am still aiming to finish next summer or no later than December. I'm going back and rest now and I want to thank my online family for their continued support!

    congrats
Wow, Rene. Way to finish strong in your grad classes! I'm impressed that you could carry on there in spite of dealing with this horrible, scary, messy detour. You have shown a determination most doctoral students don't ever need to muster! Please take very good care of yourself now and in the next couple of months! Cheering you on!

Sorry to hear that chemo is in your future but you seem to be very strong and have handled all of this very well. And A's in both classes. Way to go. We will be here for you and there are ladies on board to answer any questions. Good plan to bob the hair and cut the wig to match. Remember that we are also here just in case you need to vent. It happens to the best of us. This journey can take so many unexpected turns and it's hard to be up all the time although I endeavor to do just that. But venting and tears help the journey as well. I wish you well in your journey and prayers that it goes smoothly for you.

    Thx!
Thx again for your blessings! I'm trying to rest and deal with the drains. One keeps leaking and my plastic surgeon was concerned that the white and/or pink color was an infection. I have only had the drains in for 9 days now. I've been ok and I continue to take my antibiotics. I haven't taken any pain meds today so I am feeling better. I'm actually about to go put icing on some red velvet cup cakes then lay it back down. Take care and I hope everyone has a Merry Christmas!

Make sure you get some stool
Make sure you get some stool softners incase you get some constipation. I personally didn't have too much trouble with Percocet, but I didn't need it for my lumpectomy in July, I used it for my hernia surgery in Oct. I was given Vicodan and I didn't like Vicodan at all, it made me slightly nauseaous and didn't work as good as the Percocet. I wish you all the best with your journey, we will be here for you!

    Hi
Thx! First I have to tell you Eil4186 you are a beautiful person! Now, I'm ready for these drains to come out! It has been almost 2 weeks with 2 drains and they are draining less than 10cc for 12 hours. I am feeling better each day. Haven't takena daily nap since Christmas day. I'll meet with my breast specialist on Jan. 6 and she'll refer me to an Oncologist I guess for my treatment plan. I've already been told with 4 lymph nodes removed and 2 with traces of cancer I will have to have chemo. Does all chemo affect you the same way? Can you take it watered down for a longer time? Whatever I have to do, I will do. Best wishes to all!
