Stiff Neck--OW!
Sue, while the constant swinging of your tail *might* have caused your stiff neck, I suspect it's really due to tension--you're probably *more* than just a "lil" tense! I've been suffering from the same thing off & on for several weeks now.
If you can't get someone to massage your neck & shoulders, can you get one of those neck barley bag things? Put it in the microwave for the time recommended (sorry, I can't remember how long--can't be too long, though--you don't want things exploding!) to warm it up and put it around your neck. You can do gentle neck rotating exercises to help loosen it up, too. Also, sit down and relax, then slump over and blow out a deep breathe several times, then rotate your neck gently. If you can sit down for 5-10 minutes and really focus on relaxing every muscle in your body, it might help some!

So sorry. I know that stiff necks are a PAIN! HA, get it? Ok, sorry. Anyway, have you tried a heating pad for awhile on your neck? Sometimes heat can loosen up muscles that are tight. It could be a stress stiff neck since you said you had lot going on with xmas. Hope it gets better for you.

I am so sorry that you have had it too Sandy. I hope yours gets better. It hurts, doesn't it? I guess I need to get hubby to give me a really good massage. He tried the other night, but, it didn't really help. He needs lessons! lol I will look into the neck barley bag. That sounds like it would feel good. Going to do your exercises now. You never realize how much you actually use your neck until it hurts every time you do!
Depending on what's causing it, heat and/or cold may help. If there's something swollen, the cold with help to reduce the swelling, and the heat will help to relax the surrounding muscles. You might try alternating heat and cold and see if that helps.
I would also recommend checking into a yoga class. I started doing yoga years ago due to neck and upper back pain and found it SO helpful. I had been going to a chiropractor and orthopedist, taking physical therapy and pain meds. Once I started doing yoga, I was able to go off the meds altogether and don't need additional physical therapy. In addition to the relief from back pain, it has helped me with relaxation, flexibility, and strength. I can't recommend it highly enough.

If you have a chance to see osteopath doctor definitely go for it.
Massage and acupuncture can be helpful too.
As far as I remember you are not taking hormonal therapy, so we cannot blame estrogen modulator for your neck.

When I was having stiff

When I was having stiff neck problems my doctor told me to put my head down like I was trying to touch my chin to the chest and then to put it back upright and then go back as far as I could. Then to gentle make circles with the head to the right, then the left. Then to try to put my left ear down on my shoulder, then the right ear to the right shoulder. Then to end with slowly lifting both my shoulders like you are shrugging and then drop them back down rather quickly. He said to repeat these several times, several times a day. And the shoulder shrug thing is a good one to do if you are at the computer alot. These are all supposed to help untighten tension knots. You might also look into massage but be sure and tell them about the stiffness and make sure they are skilled at therauptic massage. Never tried acupuncture but it's worth a shot. My son in law swears by its results.

Sue, I've been having that stiff neck too. Glad you posted, I thought it was an "old age" thing. I'm on hormone therapy so I'll blame it on that. You have had a lot of good suggestions here. I use heat on my neck and then try some of the different exercises. Then ice it down to keep the inflamation down. It usually goes away after a few days. Hope you feel better soon. Being on the computer for long periods of time causes a lot of pain for me in my neck, back, shoulders, arms. Why am on this computer now? Gotta go.0 -

You have lots of good advice Sue. I would think a good massage would help. Maybe instead of your hubby, get a professional to do it for you. Hope it gets better.

I get a stiff neck sometimes if I am at the computer too long. Usually a good neck massage and some aspirin help me. I hope you get relief soon Sue.

Awe Sue... sore necks I hate them... but I tend to them with heat... Hot bath with a towel I soak in hot water rolled up and proped behind my head... generally that makes me feel so much better... even if only temporarily...
