I was diagnosed in Oct 2007, Stage IIIc( 8/32 lymph nodes positive), had chemo and resection surgery. I have only had CAT scans and I was wondering if I shouldn't get a PET scan. I am NED but still having problems, headaches, nausea, chemo brain, constant hot flashes then cold, etc. I have had all kinds of tests for these problems but never a PET. Just had a brain MRI and awaiting results. It took them 2 years to find the original lemon size cancer so I'm a little gun shy. Thanks for your help. Sure appreciate you all. Hugs

God Bless you all,

Debbie (gramma)

    Pet Scan
    Hi Debbie,

I was diagnosed with a stage 3 five years ago and went to stage 4 about 2 1/2 years ago. I have had all of my treatment at MD Anderson. I have had scans at least every 3 months for the past 5 years. I didn't have a PET scan until the CT scan showed a very small metastasis 2 1/2 years ago. I still get CT scans every 3 months and have only had one more PET scan since the first one. The CT scan has shown every new metastasis without problem and the PET scan can show spots that appear to be cancer but are not. I know how you feel because I kept thinking the same thing as you are thinking. Now, in hind site, the docs were right on the money on when I really needed PET scans vs CT scans. Hope this helps you to know that you are not alone in worrying about PET vs CT scans.

    Tony
