It so amazes me that when you don't have insurance, these Dr.s wont see you. You have a disease which can kill you if left untreated and they turn you away! I thought these people took some kind of moral oath. How is that moral? I realize nothing is free, but come on. I will work with a pymt plan, they just need to understand I am the only one working and I have to pay cash for Steves meds, so there is only so much money running around! It just makes me so mad that they can just turn him away likek that! I can't find anyone to take him. How am I suppose to help him, if I cant get him a new oncologist. And trust me, after the things Steve said to the last oncologist, I think they have a picture of him hanging on a wall at the reception desk that says to call the police! I am applying for the medical card, but that is taking forever, which I am afraid Steve doesn't have! It is getting harder for him to breathe with the fluid around his lung, and if they drain it, it will just fill back up. I am so mad, scared, frustratd, and kinda bah humbug!

    No Insurance
    Hi Chris,
I am so sorry that you and your husband are going through this. I do not blame you one bit for being mad, and feeling like humbug!! Gee Whiz, can't you get a break? We all have to put our heads together here, and think of some way to help you.

Where do you live? There has to be another cancer center you can take him to. Have you called the American Cancer society? They may be able to help you find someone in your area. What about your local hospital emercency room? I think you have already been there, but it is just a thought. Are there any university hospitals near you?

You and your husband remain on my prayer list. I am getting a pain in my chest just thinking about your situation. Hang in there the best you can. You are doing a great job. Keep us posted. You will be on my mind all day today.

    Sincerely,
    Tina

Do you have a state hospital nearby?
Usually these are attached to a university. If you do, you can go to the ER there for the fluid build up--usually they have to see you.

I know, I don't understand how they could turn someone away like that. It is beyond me.

    Hi Chris
    HI Chris,

I would contact my local congressmans office. Thats what I did and they were able to get Als
assistance approved within 24 hours. You may also want to contact legal aide and see if they
    can help.

Have you applied for any charity care through the hospitals. I would call and see if there is a social worker that can help you.

These are just a few thing that come to mind.

    God Bless,,

Well a little glimmer of hope...I found a place called Illinois Cancer Care Center. They are out of Peoria but they have a facility about 30 minutes from us. One problem we have is that we are in a small farming area and are at least 1 1/2 - 2 hrs. from any university medical centers, etc. The local hospital has helped us, but the only oncologist around here is the the one my husband used last time. They said it could take up to 3 weeks to get all his records. I am gonna try to speed that up myself. Before my mother in law passed, she used to call me her personal pitbull. She said once I got my mind made up i latch on and dont let go. Hopefully it works again. If I have it my way I will have all those records in my hand and appointment set by Firday. I also have to get my primary care dr to refer us because they don't take "personal appointmrnts". I found that funny...someone is callling a cancer treatment place, obviously for a reason, and you can't make the appointment. Too funny. Thank you both so much for thinking of me! And for the prayers also. You guys rock!

    {BIG HUGS}
