Good news
Today I went back to Johns Hopkins for a full-body PET scan and a CAT scan, my first since before the neck dissection. I'm happy to say that both scans showed no abnormal cell division anywhere. In other words, I'm cancer free.
How's that for a Christmas gift?
I hope that my experience and the positive experiences of others on this board might provide at least a glimmer of hope for all of you who are going through treatment or enduring the aftermath of treatment for this rotten disease. Keep your eyes on the prize: Cancer sucks, but it can be beaten.

Congratulations !
Congratulations Jim. That is 'great' news and a load off I'm sure. Also gives hope for all who have been or are going through these ordeals that there are good chances for all of us. Have a great Christmas for this one and many more.

Yes!
Very sweet words- "cancer free." And "hope" you have given us, Jim, with the great scan results. Seems like you got the very best of Christmas gifts- a lot more Time. And, yeah, all of us know you fought-for and earned it. It's truly good news, like this, that's good news for everybody, and a bit of a Christmas gift from you to all of us. Thanks, Jim. Hope and pray you continue giving this gift- keep that cancer somewhere else for a long time (like in a box you kick around the house when you remember what you've been thru). Congratulations.0 -

Thats great. I'm so glad for you Jim. Keep it up and enjoy your holidays. I just got a call from the oncologist this morning and they are setting up my first PET scan since I completed treatment. Hope I will soon be able to post some good news as well.

Your words yet again serve purpose to those of us that read the forum. It is double good since your words are in your favor and not the disease that we all share here. Congratulations!!!
I hope to announce the same in early 2010.0 -
Absolutely the best Christmas gift ever.
Fantastic news Jim. I have followed your posts here and agree with others that you have been a welcome source for info and hope. I am about a year ahead of you and have had that same great news too so I can relate to how great you and your family must feel.

2 rounds of cisplatin
2 rounds? pumps w/flouracil? if so, you I do need to know. can't find anybody who has had the chemo pumps thing like I did. MY CONTINUED LOSS OF GUM TISSUE, 8 months after the last rad, is of great concern to me. with the amount of cisplatin I was given- am I part of an experiment, or trial? I do not know, but do wonder.0 -

That is one of the best Christmas gifts you can get, I go tomorrow for my PET, it is not my first but I hope it is my last.
Hondo- let us know as soon as you get the results. We are here for you- every one of us are with you. what I have been thru over the past year pales in comparison to what you have survived. still, I am here with you, as we all are, in ultimate respect.
