Is Bilateral Mastectomy REALLY an Outpatient Procedure?

Bilateral Mastectomy
BunnyJane
I had 2 lumpectomies (8/8/08, 9/9/08) and then a bilateral mastectomy(11/14/08) without reconstruction. I asked to go home after the surgery and my breast surgeon allowed me to go home as long as I has a visiting nurse come in the next day. It was(for me) the best thing I could have asked for. I went home seen the look on my boys faces, my family was so happy to see me doing well. It was the best medicine I could have asked for at that time. I didn't spend the night in the hospital worring about my family, worring about me. I was with them and I SLEPT for the first time in months. Very little pain, the drains are uncomfortable and I do recommend that if you go home the same day. Accept all the help you are offered. Not because you'll need it but they want to help you heal! Good Luck and God Bless.
