Blood Clot .. Anyone experiencing such a SCARE ????

I would like to personally thank each and every one you for keeping me in your prayers as it has been a very difficult few weeks. Just when you think you have everything figured out, dialed in and ready to continue with our fight .. you slip and fall. This time, I ended up with a head cold. My white blood counts are dropping and peaking every few days, and a blood clot in my right arm (diagnosised by Holistic doctor on Thursday).

Talk about scared to death .. why this happened is anyone's guess, so my onc tells me.

No .. no I have not once asked .. 'why me' .. I don't want to go there, because I will will not come back to reality anytime soon. I have cried, cussed and fought my way thru a staff of nurses, doctors and family members -- who all have no answers for me. So I waited it out, came home several hours ago .. allowed my husband to fall asleep, and ran down stairs to my office and the safety of our ACS site.

As I sit here and type, I know that on what I say, or how I say it will be viewed as written, and I will not be judged.

"How is it that my oncologist and his staff who see's me every week .. I mean every week .. not to figure out that I had a blood clot?? I pointed out the area in my arm that concerned me??" I am so UPSET .. I now figured out that I have been talking to walls, these past 11 weeks .. and that I am a #, not a patient with valid concerns. Where did I go wrong ???

    Yes i know what you are going though right after i had my port put in i had and eco and they thought i had a blood clot on the end of my port, I was like wow what is going to happen now. had about 3 other test done and now they think its not a blood clot yes you heard me right they think.I am sure you have a good group of doctors and nurses i think sometimes they hear us and deal with so much at one time that we get lost we are never a number.I am happy that someone did hear what you were saying and found out what was going wrong.I will be praying for you to get though this also.

    Do not blame yourself.
    I am sure you have done everything what was in your power. Unfortunately many doctors are very narrow minded. They are good specialist but do not think beyond their area of expertise.
    It seems so funny that You can get better diagnosis and side effects management here, on this side than in dr office. They have advantage over us they can physically examine and see you we cannot.
    On a positive note I am glad that you took everything in your hands and go to a holistic doctor.

    Sorry you've had such a difficult time with your treatments. Hope things start looking up soon.

    I've had blood clots in my leg, and they can be difficult to diagnose. My PCP is excellent, but it took him a few visits before he determined that I had a blood clot. The only way to know for sure is to have a Venus Doppler done on the affected area. If it is determined that you have a blood clot, you should start taking a blood thinner. For me, as soon as it was discovered, my doctor had me in his office and giving me an intravenous blood thinner. If you holistic doctor hasn't ordered this test, please go to your PCP and have him do it.

    I sure wish that I had the answers for you, it is very hard not to judge a Dr. to make sure he is doing his job and IT SUCKS that he hadn't found that blood clot earlier!! I judge my Dr. all the time! My husband says I am the worst patient! I truly hoped you expressed your concerns with him so he knows how you are feeling!

    I also feel like a # sometimes in my HUGE clinic..it is hard not to feel this way at times. I guess my best answer is to make sure you write down any thoughts/concerns you have and do not forget to mention each one at each appt! And MAKE your DR. MAKE time for you..do not let him out of that office till he has answered all of your questions! You are paying for it!

    I am sorry about this latest news, but I know you will keep trudging through and you will come out on top VickiSam. You did not go wrong anywhere. One more tiny roadbump. You will be fine, I know it.

    I have to say this time
    I have to say this time Ihave been pretty dissapointed. On one hand I am apppredciative of some things, and dont want to be a basher, but feel the state of health care is too assembly line and not indivivdual enough. Seems like if you dont follow the party line you get rather pushed aside. Oh that cant be from the chemo, or I dont know what to do for that, and you are left trying to figure it out yourself. That stinks when you are feeling so yucky to begin with. I feel like I get second opinions all the time and I am not sure they appreciate it but its my body and my health and I am the one who it directly affects.
    I hope things look up for you what is the blood clot from and where are you in your chemo? Have they figured out why your WBC keeps doing that. I was suprised to figure out on AC your blood counts can go pretty low and really just rally for the next treatment. the peak is something like 10 days, I felt like I am walking around with a WBC that low????? anyway I guess we just persevere but its not always easy. I am glad you are home hopefully resting.

    VickiSam, you have done everything right: I've read your posts and admired your confident, not easily intimidated manner.

    I don't know what else you could have done to get your doctor and his staff's attention. Shame on them for missing the blood clot. That is a serious lapse--theirs, not yours. At this point, I might, as we women in my Southern family put it, "throw a fit." Or, "show my a**, depending on how I feel at the moment. You are not getting the attention you have rightfully asked for, and should have. Whatever it takes to get that attention, I am betting you can do it, VickiSam.

    Where did I go wrong,you ask? Nowhere. I am so sorry you are having one trial on top of another. But, you will remain in my prayers and Joe's.

    Vicki Sam I'm praying you get thru this with not one more side effort!! You Vicki are not a #, and I'm darn sure yur med team knows that!! My onc has spaced out my chemo because my white counts have tanked so low--I know each case is different, and meds are different, but you I'm sure will speak up to take the best possible care of your body~!! My prayers are with you daily and i mean this from the bottom of my heart!! Please keep us updated on this blood clot. Love, ((Hugs)), Palmetto bugs. Well I'll forgo the bugs but its fun to say since I live in Florida.
