Bladder Issues
I'm new to this discussion board but done with my chemo. I'm IDC, stage 1, ER/PR pos, HER2 pos. no lymph nodes. Had a lumpectomy in June, 4 rounds of A/C and 1 round of Taxol. Stopped Taxol after a really bad reaction to it. I've started Herceptin 11/4 and I start radiation next week.
Now onto my issue--I have blood in my urine and systems of a UTI. Urine tests came back neg. Was sent to a urologist, he thought it was a kidney stone and did a catscan. Nope came back clear. Now he wants to put a scope in my bladder to see what's there. That's happening Thurs.
All docs are saying this is not a reaction to chemo, but I wonder--has this happened to anyone else????
This is a great site, glad I found it.

Blood in the urine needs to
Blood in the urine needs to be addressed. Glad your doctors are on top of it. I haven't had chemo so I don't know if it could be a side effect. The scope will be able to see the bladder in much the same way a colon scope looks at the colon. I had urinary bleeding and was sent for an IVP which looks at the kidneys, bladder and ureters and a mass was seen. Then I had a cystoscopy (which is what you must be having). The mass was removed (very small) and it was cancer. That was in 2003 and I go for a cystoscopy every year. I haven't had any recurrence since. Cancer is not, I repeat not, the only cause of urinary bleeding. Is it possible that you passed a stone before they did the catscan? Are you still having symptoms and bleeding? Please try not to worry, easier said than done. Are you doing this procedure as an out patient or under light sedation? I will be sending my most positive thoughts that this is nothing serious.

Do you have any other symptoms than bleeding. Some Chemo drugs could affect the bladder. In fact Cytoxan does.
I had Taxotere/Cytoxan regiment. After Chemo was done have had symptoms of infection and irritation with absolutely perfect urine labs.
I cannot comment on your cocktail. It will be useful for your diagnosis if you can identify additional symptoms.0 -

Yes, I'm still having symptoms and the procedure is being done in the doctors office tomorrow. He said I would be able to drive myself and even go to work afterwards. Hope that's true.
Thanks for your positive thoughts.

I asked about the cytoxan and was told I would have to be on a very heavy dose for it to cause blood in the urine so he ruled that out. Still makes me wonder though. Do you still have symptoms? How long has it been?0 -

Do you have your test results yet?
My symptoms are similar to UTI, but I do have blood. I am drinking Cranberry juice all the time. The symptoms they come and go.
I probably need to see specialist as well. My PC physician thinks that it is irritation and vaginal dryness. If you are not ER+ you can try estrogen cream. For ER+ she suggested baby dipper cream.

Both the catscan and the scope test came back clear. Yeah! My urologist said that my brain is sending the message to my bladder that it's full and needs to be emptied, AKA over active bladder. The microscopic blood in my urine could be caused by the Cytoxan or the stress my body has gone through (I had a really bad reaction to Taxol). He put me on Vesicare for a month then we're going to see how I'm doing. I hope this works--I hate this feeling.
Thanks for everyones responses.

Glad that it was not something super serious but still this is hard to deal with. I had spasms and problems when I had pelvic radiation. It was very, very uncomfortable and I got very tired of feeling the urgency and then out comes a thimble full of urine. I hope that the medicine they give you works for you.
