HI All,

I haven't posted in a while and I am doing well. I had Cytoreductive Surgery with HIPEC in December '08. I just had another clean scan. Woohoo! Three more months of living and loving my family.

Now I am trying to help a couple of other ladies do the same. If you have had this surgery and you live in Canada please contact me. I have two mothers in Canada who both need it and they need to know how to get it.

I believe there was a Canadian on this site whose husband had the procedure.

PM me or post here.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Also go to HIPECtreatment.org for lots of studies on this topic.

It sounds like you have to fight.... If you watch this youtube there is a guy in Canada who can help folks get what they need sometimes.

    Jennifer,
    My brother has met

    Jennifer,
My brother has met with Dr. Sugarbaker and will have cytoreductive surgery as soon as he completes 3 months of chemo. HIs insurance company is Optima and we expect a fight. Did your insurance company cover the procedure and hospitalization and if so, do you mind telling me the name of the company. We are trying to find cases where Optima covered it as well as have a list of other companies that have covered it. It is so encouraging to hear that you are doing so well!!!
    Thanks so much,
    Jane

    United Health Care
Va girl, a lady on colonclub.com mentioned UHC paid 100% what Dr. Sugarbaker demanded. It's under a thread on UHC.

    Sugarbaker Protocol
    Hi,

My husband Bill had the Sugarbaker Protocol done in Calgary. We were told at that time that there were 4 doctor's in all of Canada that do this surgery, we were lucky enough to live within 200 miles of Calgary. Also while meeting with another doctor here in Edmonton, there were 2 more doctor's going to Chicago to train with Dr Sugarbaker. You can search under Sugarbaker Protocol here and find out what the surgery entailed.

Google it, you will find out everything you want to know about the procedure, and then some, I did last night but I must warn you, one of the sites I brought up was the actual surgical pictures not just drawings so unless you are up for that, be careful what you look for. - Take care Tina

I apologize, I'm facing HIPEC and nervous. Couple of questions?

I am about to have the same in January... I was wondering if anyone can share if HIPEC surgery has a more painful recovery than an intestinal resection? I've had a resection due to Colon cancer... wasI  38 and diagnosed as 3rd stage... 3 years, 4 surgeries and 3 cycles of chemotherapy later, I'm facing the HIPEC. I go in on the 11th of January and am just a LITTLE nervous.

Though oxcaliplatin and zeloda did not make me lose any hair... I am one of those who lost ALL  hair from the 5fu treatments... Will I lose my hair from the HIPEC?

Will I be a sick to my stomach with nausea as I've been with regular chemotherapy infusions?

Please, forgive me for all my questions...  I've not really asked anyone any of these questions... I've had no one to ask. I know I can google it... And I've goggled the mess out of this... But I guess I just want a person to speak with about this because it just seems much more comforting this way... Google can be so cold.

    @VirginiaGirl

I'm in Virginia and I have United Health Care and they are covering the procedure and hospital stay... I just got it, but Anthems have taken care of my expenses well, thus far. I'm glad I did not go with Optima. I'm so sorry you're dealing with the red tape... The illness and procedures are bad enough.
