Al had a little bump in the road.
The dilation and drain removal all went fine but it seems that the tech that did the barium
swollow the day before was a little to aggressive in making Al drink that horrible stuff and some of it got into his lungs. The home care nurse came on Thursday and had me cal 911
Als pulse ox was only 74 by the time we got to the ER he had a temp of 102. So the DR.s who did the procedure the day before came to the ER to check things out and they were not to happy when they looked at his chest x-ray. The put him on IV antibiotics and watched him yesterday and he is home now.
I had a little chat with the Dr.s about the situation and the talked to Al and told him
that if he ever feels that he is being pushed or rushed when someone is doing a test to tell them to STOP AND TO GET A SUPERVISOR.
So I had to wear my BGPs for a couple of days, Its a good thing a have extra.
We have 3 weeks before we have to see another Dr. Hopefully God willing they will be very
uneventful.
God Bless each of you.
Kath

Oh bummer. I'm sorry the tech. acted that way and made him feel rushed. That's not good - I hope he was given a talkin' to.
I'm so glad that Al is back home and doing well now. Hopefully, the next 3 weeks (and more) will be smooth sailing for you guys.
Blessings,

How your treatment so well orchestrated by surgeons can be set back by a technician? We have to always remember to listen to our bodies...and when things don't feel right, remember they might not BE right.
I am sorry to hear about this bump...hope it is smooth sailing from here.0 -
Kath,
I have read your post
Kath,
I have read your post twice and just shake my head---unfortunately not every health care worker is imagining what it would be like if the "patient" was actually one of their OWN family members!!! If they did---they would proceed differently... Al's tough---he can get over this in no time, but posting this make s us realize that we need to talk to our family members about this kind of situation! I know my dad tries to not complain and "be a good Patient"---he would be in the same boat as Al! we're thinking and praying for you guys!

Hi Kath,
Sorry to hear that, I wonder if you can go in with Al when he is getting tests to oversee what the techs do? I know I have a medical background so I speak up for myself but many people my husband included will listen to any medical person no matter what. Glad the home nurse got right on it, but it is a shame to have anything happen after the surgeons did such a great job. Hope all goes well from now forward. take care,

Hi All,
Thank you for all of your well wishes! Al is feeling alot better today, except the antibiotics are making him a little sick to his stomach so he is back on compazine for a couple of days. He actually had a real dinner he had some fish and rice pilaf and peas.
I was amazed, he said to me make dinner I'm hungry!
The nurse will be here in the morning to check his lungs and to make sure he's doing o.k.
Donna unfortunately they won't let me go back due to radiation exposure, but I will make it
very clear that they only get on shot and they better get it right the first time.
Al also knows that if there is any question about whats going on to have them get me.
Just to all of you be careful and don't let them rush you into anything!
Thanks again!
God Bless

Fish is great for a soft meal, with the rice and peas, that is something to celebrate, and this time last month you thought he would never have the surgery.
Hang in there you have alot to be thankful for at Thanksgiving, his taste buds will be different now i know.
Take care
