Lung mets and dry cough

I have been off Folfiri and Avastin for two and a half weeks. (My scans showed progression of lung mets so chemo was stopped). A couple of days ago I started having a dry cough that is aggravated when I speak. Of course, I am immediately thinking the worst possible scenario.

Has anyone else with lung mets experienced a dry cough?

The chemo takes awhile to wear off, along with it's drying symptoms.

Try not to worry (Yeah, right). We all worry. Alot. 24/7/365

My mother had lung cancer. They took out half lung, than later on,
another big section, and she kept right on smoking away.

She chain-smoked cartons of cigarettes during the entire time,
and 17 years after she was told she had six months left, she
finally passed away. But she enjoyed life during it all.

Don't worry about the cough, just find out what else can be
done to help you back to a full life.

And never, ever give up. There are other options as well.

I have recently developed lung mets. I have also had Folfiri before and Avastin. I'm back on Avastin now. From what I remember reading about Avastin it can cause pulmonary problems. I have had a cough before but it went away. Try not to worry - it's probably from irritation from the medicines. Take care. Roy

Thank you for your responses. I'm confused because I didn't have this cough when I was on Folfiri + Avastin. It started 2 weeks after my last cycle. Roy, did you have your cough when you were on treatment? How long did yours last? I hope that you are right and it has something to do with an after effect of the meds.

I have
Been on Folfiri with Avastin since February, and I don't have a dry cough, but my voice does get dry and cracked when I speak at first sometimes, but it does go away in time, i sorta sound abit "husky" like I smoked or something, I wouldn't worry about the dry cough though, I'm pretty sure it is the chemo treatment

Yes, we're all together in hope. I like that. I had a cough starting sometime during treatment and lasting afterwards. It lasted for a few weeks. I hope your's is just the after effects of the medicines. Take care. Roy

I have lung mets with appendix cancer.
My cough went away after at least 3 to 4 treaments. The cough is my signal that the cancer is growing. The CEA and my cough are my indicators of how my cancer is doing.

I have lung mets, but although I don't have a cough, I do have shortness of breath. Sometimes it feels like I can't breathe at all. My mets are shrinking though and I still have issues. What does your doctor say about the cough? My doctor always asks me if I have a cough when I see him, so I would definitely mention it to your onc. By the way, what is the next plan of action for your treatment since the chemo was stopped?

Hi Sheri
Congratulations on your good news! Your mets are shrinking, yeah!

I am going to have SBRT radiation to the new met in my L1 vertebrae and radiation to a subcutaneous lesion on my upper back that grew at the incision site of my VATS surgery.

Then I am going to go back on chemo. Since neither Folfox nor Folfiri + Avastin worked for me, I am going to go on Gemsar/Zeloda/Avastin. Hopefully this combination will work for me. If not then I'll be looking for a clinical trial.

My onc doesn't know what could be causing the cough. He said that it could mean disease progression. Gulp......
