Help my Dad! Liver Resection vs. chemoemblasty

Hello...
My 78 year old Dad has a 14.3 cm. primary liver tumor on his liver that has met. to part of his kidney. Both organ functions are good (wow!) and we are torn between treatments options. Should he try chemoemblasty or surgery to remove the tumor? We are scheduled for a second opinion on 11/17, but are also scheduled for the chemoemblasty procedure on the 10th. We don't have time to waste...
Can anyone tell me from experience how recovery is from liver resection surgery?
Or, if they had chemoemblasty at stage 3 liver cancer, like my Dad, was it successful in prolonging their life? Docs. give him 6-9 months without any treatment.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated. HELP!
