enlarged thymus gland

I had a total thyroidectomy 15 years ago. I had a lumpectomy, radiation, and chemotherapy 3 years ago for breast cancer. 2 years ago I had I-131 to treat a recurrence of my thyroid cancer. As a follow up, I had a PET scan last week. All looked normal except my doctor said my thymus gland was enlarged compared to the PET scan from the year before. She said that no follow up was needed and not to worry, but what does this mean? Has anyone else experienced this?

    I had a similiar situation several years ago. I am a 15 yr. pap thyca survivor and had one recurrence. After 2 scans that showed a mass in my upper chest my surgeon went in to remove it and it ended up benign hyperplastic thymus gland. It was such a relief but very scary thinking it was cancer before the surgery. They told me after the fact that sometimes the RAI will cause the thymus gland to enlarge. Ask your doc if it could be from the RAI. Good luck to you...God bless, Tiffany
