I know this seems a bit trivial but leisure activities are great stress relievers, mine happens to be my motorcycle. Well that and sex but I can’t make that ride yet either! Do any of you ride (a bike) and if so how long after surgery did you get back on your bike? I’m just past one month post surgery so still early for me, but it would sure be nice to get out on the road and forget about things for an hour or so anyway.

What are some of your stress relievers?

    I don't own a motorcycle but
I don't own a motorcycle but 7 weeks post surgery was in Bermuda. Rode scooters around for 1 1/2 days. Was a blast and had no problems with urinary control. Just got sore butt and back.

    Bike riding
I started walking 2-3 miles right after the cath was removed, (7) days. At 10 days I was playing tennis & at 2 weeks I was swimming laps. Riding my bicycle was not comfortable until about 3 months. The small bike seat is hard in the crotch area. Kayaking was a little rough early on with the prolonged sitting on a thin seat. Now after 5 months post.... I'm doing everything that I was doing before surgery.......except my sex life has declined.
    Good luck,

My bike is human powered. My surgeon said I cannot ride it for 8 weeks. He also said no situps or running for 8 weeks. I can use Wii Fit starting next week as long as it does not involve jumping or impact.

I'm still looking for stress relief and am trying out model making.

    Very Active
Wow you guys are very active; so far all I've done is walk everyday and went hunting. But very encouraging news thanks. Looks like I should be able to ride my bike in no time.

Motorcycle road vs dirt vs bike (road and mountain)
My surgery is this Friday Nov 6th. I do all of the above. My fav is riding my dirt bike down Baja.... 1600 miles in the dirt with Malcolm Smith and 60 other nuts over a 6-7 day period.... I'm suppose to do it for the 6th time this March and hope I will be recovered enough to do it. My Dr. said, baring complications I should be able to make it.

Motorcycle dirt/road and bike mountain/road are all stress reducers for me and I will miss them all until I am okayed to do them again after my surgery. My guess is riding the road bike will be easiest on the body post surgery.... but we will see.

I'm going to keep walking and running as much as I can after surgery and hope that helps get me ready to ride sooner. We will see! Now that I am reading this, I may go for one last ride on my dirt bike pre surgery... because it may be a couple months before I get to do that post surgery.

Every week I'm amazed at how
Every week I'm amazed at how much better I feel then the previous week. We had a party for my son and his wife (Newly weds) this weekend. I was up and down off the floor making decorations for my wife, etc. A few minor drips but really had those legs in some weird positions! Nov. 12 will be 3 months post op for me. Nov. to March will be four months for you so I think you will do great! My best friend used to ride dune buggies out there in Southern California. He broke his back in a bad accident in the buggy or he would be out there still jumping dunes.

    Just rode
Well yesterday was 5 weeks post surgery so today I went for a little ride. I'm not ready for a trip yet but the little 10 mile smile really helped out with the stress. Hope the rest of you can ride soon or do whatever it is that makes you smile for no other reason then the pure joy of doing it!

I ride dirt bikes also and I
I ride dirt bikes also and I am tring to get in all the riding I can before surgery on 8/11/10. I assume it will be a couple of months before the ok's the dirt bike. I like to go camping to relieve stress. I am very anxious to get the surgery over with so I try to keep myself occupied. Camping and dirt bikes do keep me busy and anything that makes the wait go by quickly is a big help.

    Warning note!
My surgeon shared with me multiple stories of men who exposed their pelvic to early stress and problems that showed up months later..including complications needing more surgeries! His advise was to restrict macho behavior we are all prone at times and be very very conservative in giving stress to pelvic area. His advise was to wait for 6-8 week and even after be very careful of any potential trauma.

Just my 2 cents of caution.

    M/C Riding for stress relief
I am taking a long trip the week before my surgery - riding around Lake Michigan from Chicago. That is my stress relief before the surgery.

After surgery, I plan to take the doc's advice and take it easy on the crotch and straning for a good 6-8 weeks.
