I'm actually a pretty good cook but standing at the stove for hours isn't in the cards yet. I simply open a can of Dinty Moore, heat, and then mash everything down into a paste with a fork. Their stew is actually pretty decent and the meat is super tender and will mash.
Thanks. I picked up a can yesterday and then put it back down, because I am pretty much a from scratch cook, but making a pot of stew and not knowing how it's going to go is not realistic either. Besides I would probably season it way too much.
How many weeks post rad are you again? I think you are about the same as my husband(4wks).
When do you have your first PET? Seems everyone is a little different. He has to wait until the 1st of Jan.PK -

I may have to give that a try. I liked it "prior to".........so maybe it'll do the trick. I'm doing well on pot pies....chicken noodle and vegetable beef soup. The homemade gumbo is really good, but the rice gets caught up in various weird places in my mouth and throat. -

Being a caregiver is tough. He probably can't taste the spices anyway and its not bad for canned stew. Cancer should make you do things you would not have done before, take more chances. You can also save your pride and just hide the damn can. Yesterday I had some cling peaches cut up and mixed with cottage cheese, see what I mean. I'm approaching four weeks out from base of the tongue, 39 Rads and cisplatin. I'm having CT scans at 4 weeks this Friday in anticipation of a neck disection. My taste gets better for moments then disappears again. I have trouble making enough saliva but do have some. I can not tolerate breads, pasta, or rice, just not enough saliva. Morning is either cereal which I let soak in milk or oatmeal mixed with blueberries and raisens. I then down a couple cans of jevity 1.5 during the day. Night time I try a little of whatever the family is having and then usually wind up with canned soup of some kind. All the creams are doable. Anything else I mash with a fork. I may again drink a couple cans of Jevity if hungry. Today, try something new! -

I am out to buy peaches and cottage cheese. You and my husband are at about the same stage. He also has base of the tongue(left side) and a lymph node. His onco doesn't do a PET for 3 months. Hopefully there won't be any cells left that need to be surgically removed. Hoping the best for you on Fri. PK
