Just letting off steam. Hubby was put on dex by the oncologist about a week or so ago and has been having chest pains for the last few days. His left arm has even become numb but he will not go to the doctor. He insists he still has the fight in him i.e. he is not giving up. I have made an appointment for this evening and if he refuses to go I'll get a locum to come home to see him. I know he is tired of being a pin-cushion but seriously it would do noone any good for him to have a heart attack while we are fighting GBM IV. He was already having issues with his heart before the GBM IV diagnosis so its not something to dismiss lightly. Sometimes I wish he would direct his stubbornness towards the cancer and not me.

OK vent over.

    It's okay to vent..
I completely know how you feel. I help my mom care for my father who is 86 and has pancreatic cancer. He is prior military and VERY stubborn! He refuses to go to the ER when strange symptoms arise because he simply doesn't want to be admitted!? In 2007 he stayed in bed for almost 3 days only getting up to use the restroom and REFUSED to go to the hospital. Then I finally got tired of his stubborness and called the EMTs. Once they checked him out they said it was crucial that they take him to the hospital. Even then he refused treatment and demanded that they leave! Needless to say, by the 3rd day he passed out! Ended up that he not only had a heart attack, but he had an obstruction in his small intestine that required an emergency operation to resection over 3 feet of intestines because they were gangreaus (died)! The surgean told us before the surgery that it "would take a miracle" for him to survive the surgery since his heart was soo weak! Well, here we are 3 years later and now we are fighting pancreatic cancer! You can just imagine how stubborn he is being now!

All I can say is be patient! It is very hard dealing with this illness but I believe it's harder when you have someone that isn't really cooperating! I have always been my daddy's sweet little girl but I have had to take a very direct 'parentlike' attitude lately in order for my dad to really listen to me. Sometimes it's hard for me to be so direct but otherwise I know my dad will think he is okay fighting it alone when in reality he needs medical help in addition.

    Good luck!
