If cancer were a gift, we
If cancer were a gift, we could share the joy of it with others, or even re-gift it if we already had the "blessing" of cancer, couldn't we? I am also offended by those sentiments, even when it is explained ( justified?) that without cancer, we never would have met each other here in CSN! True as that may indeed be, I am also honest enough to say that if getting cancer was the only way any of us could meet, I would have been just as happy never having met any of you! I love you all dearly, and have been encouraged, educated and entertained by you~ but I was fine in that department BFEORE cancer too! I already loved sunsets, and family, and reading, and long walks, you fill in the blanks! :-)
But diagnosis, surgery, treatment and all of its delightful side affects, and being tapped on the shoulder by my own pending mortality~nope! Not a blessing in my book at all!
BUT...for the empowerment we can use, I am still highly recommending going to the 3 minute online movie called The Survivor Movie. It's on YouTube...go to The Cancer Crusade, and then The Survivor Movie! Not preachy, but again, empowering!

True, what we appreciate,pitt said:Ditto - I must say that I
Ditto - I must say that I don't feel "blessed" for having cancer. My mom's dying of uterine cancer right now. Don't think she feels blessed either. I appreciate my cancer center; they take good care of us. But I'd rather spend my day at the beach anytime. Pitt
True, what we appreciate, such as our cancer center is not akin to a blessing at all. And, no I don't imagine your mom thinks of this as a blessing either. I am so saddened that she is actually dying of this damnable beast...my heart is with both of you.

I thought I was the only one bothered by this! It is annoying that every few minutes I have to see these commercials especially since I am trying to watch TV to relax and forget about it for a few minutes each day! It really bothers my children too! And cancer most certainly is not a blessing maybe an eye opener but definitely think of better blessings! -

Wow, and I never thought of it like that! What's wrong with me?
I gave up watching telly 2 years ago, there are more commercials than 'Film Breaks'.. I never thought I'd miss the BBC and their licence fee, I sure do now, I'd rather pay the fee than watch the same commercials, adverts and programmes all day. You don't know what you've got till it's gone...EH?

That what I was told after I got BC diagnosis. Look at BC as "Blessing" to change your life on a positive way. So I keep trying for the past 14 months. Even treatment almost over I do not feel blessed et all.
As more time goes by the difficult to see BLESSING -

The only thing I am truly positive about is: I am POSITIVE that I wish that none of us had ever heard of, much less gotten, cancer!

no ads for me
We gave up watching commercial tv a couple years ago. We have a tv but use it for DVD's. Too many commercials and not enough quality shows. I even gave up radio for a long time but started listening the other week. I tune the commercials out and don't listen. I may start just playing CD's. I also gave up magazines. Have you noticed how many drug ads are in them? It's my life and I'm not going to take it any more. I read the news online and when I get a pop up ad that the filter didn't catch I close the article. If I click on a video and they play a commercial first I shut it off. I won't tollerate it. Maybe I'm eccentric but that's the way it is. -
