I thought that maybe you all wouldnt mind hearing a little uplifting news.
My guy has all of the side effects and more I think. He started week 5 of 6 today, radiation now twice a day since last week, chemo once every week, and hydration 4 hours every day since last week until he is done with treatment on the 30th. Lips are swollen and full of puss, as is the rest of the rash on his face, head, neck, and back. Dry mouth, mucous, no energy, no taste buds, no peg tube so almost unable to swallow much, only able to down ensure when he is on pain medication, lost 25 pounds so far.

ok, so having said all of that, he went for his appt with the head honcho radiologist dr this
morning. The dr told him that it has not all been for not, that he knows its hell, but he has to finish the treatment, even though the tumor is dissolved!!! the tumor had already shrunk in his first week by a third. Now no more tumor according to the dr!!

He was very relieved even though he figured on some progress based on his first week, just glad it was as much as he was told. So its a matter of getting thru the treatment side effects as best as he can.

It can be done!!! This hell can be beat!! baby steps, and a day at a time. but it can.

know what he thinks about most??? no not me! lol!! food and hunting!!!

I hear you. My husband is 3 weeks post rads and chemo. He is doing pretty well - trying to eat a little bit each day but still using his g tube. All he talks about is the fact that he is not pheasant hunting this year - go figure - but I guess this is better than total depression and worrying about cancer all the time. PK

    Tell your man ...
... that there is hunting after cancer. I finished my treatment Oct. 5 a year ago, and a few weeks later I was out in the duck blind. A week after that I took a nice doe on opening day of deer season.
Yep, there is life after cancer.
    Food too!

Good to know. I love it
Good to know. I love it when he goes pheasant hunting. I love him dearly, but a week apart is also good. Plus it gives me a perfect excuse to plan trips and cruises with the girls. PK

    Not to worry about posts
I think many of us have had that "ghost" in our connection. Mine seems to have returned to normal now.

    emotional moment
I have to say something. Tomorrow my boyfriend reaches his last day of treatment.
6 weeks of radiation/twice a day for last 2 weeks/chemo once a week/and hydration everyday for last 2 weeks all done. He knows he will still be cooking for 3-4 more weeks, and still in alot of discomfort, but it wont be compounded with additional zaps of radiation or chemo.
He will return home either tomorrow or Saturday morning and he is most happy about that. That is half of your recovery I would think. He has been away from home for 6 weeks. I secretly drove the 8 hours to his house from where I live, (yes its a long distance thing, cause we cant do life the easy way!) and cleaned the entire house from top to bottom. Everything, washed, cleaned appliances, baths, floors, everything so that he was able to have a healthy house to recover in.

I told him how proud of him that I was, and how the next leg of his recovery starts now.
I was quite emotional with praise to him when he texted me back (hard to talk so lots of texting):

"you didnt think I'd let this crap kill me did you?".

I just exhaled at first, release some tears and texted him back. NO WAY!!
he is way too stubborn and tough to allow that.

will keep everyone posted as we will see how his recovery goes in comparison to others.

    talk soon....
