Caregivers-How long post treatment did you feel comfortable leaving your carereceiver for a night or

My husband is 2 weeks post treatment and experiencing pretty much what everyone else is. He encourages me to do things, but I am reluctant to go with the girls and leave him overnight. Any athoughts on this????

    go for it!
    I'm at about the same stage post as your husband and my wife feels the same way. She wants to spend the day Christmas shopping with the girls but is reluctant to leave me alone. It will be good for both of you to get some time away from each other. Believe me he wants you to go, Its a way of saying thanks for all you've done. Go ahead and plan it!

    Thanks for your encouragement. I am leaving tomorrow afternoon for a little retreat with the girls and won't be back until Sat. morning. We are heading to a cabin - sounds good but here in MN we have had a very ugly fall. It's already snowed twice. Don't know where you live, but this is just ridiculous!!!!!

    Glad you madethedecisionto go. I'm in Chicago and it's37 degrees right now. Got the winter coat and hat out. Be careful driving and have a greattime.

    Caregiver time off
    During treatment my parents and sister were my caregivers. There were times they had to work when they weren't driving me to treatment. My parents wouldn't go out on weekends for the evening as this was their choice not mine. They finally went out about 5 or 6 weeks after I finished all treatments and surgery. It was nice to have some independence for once.

    Thanks too for your encouragement. I am looking forward to a drink or two this afternoon with the girls and then some cooking and hanging out. I don't mind being the caregiver, BUT the break for 48 hrs will be great. I get out and about quite regularily but do try and be at home more than I might usually be. I am leaving on a cruise Dec. 1 which was planned way before all of this happened, but that's over a month away so hopefully things will even be better by then. Take Care.PK
