H1N1 and other vaccines

Ladies,

Have you checked with your doc re: need to get this vaccine??

I did and he said "YES" - I am considered in high risk group. I am nearly 8 months post treatment.

I also got the regular flu shot and recently pneumonia and shingles vaccines. All covered by insurance.

Stay healthy everyone - keep washing the hands and gargling with salt water and I also read that swabbing the nose with salt water is good as preventative.

Vaccines
Just had #6 of 6 carbo/taxol (HOORAY!!)on Thurs. My gyn/onc, too, has urged me to have these immunizations since I am also in the high risk category. Have had pneumo and seasonal influenza. Waiting for H1N1 distribution and am checking on the shingles vaccine.

My oncology group said wait one month to get swine flu vaccine after flu vaccine. Did you get pneumovax and shingles if you are under 60 years of age?

I had the regular flu shot, too
My onocologist suggested I get the regular flu shot, as well as the H1N1 vaccine. I think you have to be over 60 for the shingles shot. I was leary about getting all three shots this fall as I just finished my chemo in August. So I am waiting until spring to get the shingles shot. I don't think you have to be over 60 to get the pneumonia shot. Remember Mary Ann's good advice to use good handwashing. In peace and caring.

I was told to get both H1N1 and seasonal we are at high risk with the cancer. H1N1 vaccine not yet avalible in my area. I can get seasonal flu shot at work at end oc this month. Hope that next month the H1N1 is in. Best way to prevent is to stay away from sick people and to wash hands and sneeze and cough into your sleeve.

H1N1 Vaccine
I work with children and have an appointment this Friday for the regular flu vaccine. As soon as the H1N1 injection is available, I will have it. When I went the second opinion at Moffitt they suggested getting the vaccines.

Today was my first day back at work and had lots and lots of children hugging me. I've already been exposed to the Swine Flu in June and just prior to my surgery in August. As a precaution, I carry a small hand sanitizer in my pocket and use it on the floor.

I also have to get the Tdap shot (tetnus, whooping cough) because I will be helping with my granddaughter.

Jill, I appreciate your concern about the H1N1 vaccine
I thought you might be okay skipping the vaccine until I read that you ride the subways. You get exposed to a lot of people on the subways, and could be exposed to someone carrying the H1N1 virus among that large group of people. One of the precautions to avoiding the H1N1 virus is to avoid large crowds of people.

My onocologist recommended that I get both the regular and the H1N1 vaccines.

I asked my primary physician about taking the shingles vaccine, as I has the chicken pox vaccine about 10 years ago. I have never had chicken pox and the facility I was going to teach clinicals to nursing students required the vaccine. My primary physician said because of the chemo taken I probably did not have immunity from the vaccine anymore. I never thought about chemo destroying other immunities I thought I had.

Peach is the color for uterine cancer
My niece crocheted me the scarf. Notice the ribbons for cancer in the scarf. The hat and scarf have been great with this cold weather we have been having in Illinois. I did not realize how a head of hair can keep you so much warmer. My hair is coming in very slowly, and I miss being warm.

There has been so much publicity with Pink and Breast Cancer Month, I thought I would show my Peach scarf and hat. In peace and caring.

Not even maybe. I wanna die of the natural causes and not because of the side effect of vaccine.
