clever ways to make scarves?

I've been trying on my wigs and they're just not looking right, maybe because I still have all my hair, thick as a mop. I've been thinking of wearing scarves more and more. I will wear hats too. But, like pitt, I will want to make my own, or have my sister make them. I'm thinking of tye-dying them. I've been on youtube looking at how to tie scarves and how to tie-dye fabric. I even watched how to make a scarf out of a tee shirt. Do you have any other ways to make scarves?

    Hey - I went to the fabric
    Hey - I went to the fabric store and bought a yard of silk, on sale only 5.99. That will make two 36" squares. Single stitch along the edges, and voila, you have two scarves for 5.99! I have been practicing with my scarves and really like them. I just fold into a triangle, place on head with point down the middle back, wrap ends over middle and tie, then knot. You have enough to pull over your shoulder, which is how i always wore my ponytail, and it looks really beautiful. I recommend materials with bright colors...and yes PINK...everyone looks good in it! ;-) Good luck and I hope this helps. I'm looking forward to seeing if we get any other suggestions. I'd love to get creative!

    batik fabrics
    You can find some beautiful batik fabrics made out of rayon at larger fabric stores and some at places like Joanns. Quilt stores will have an even better selection, but they can be more expensive. I like Batik because it's patterned on both sides. I've made all my scarves (it's all ever wear) and the rayon ones are the softest and the warmest. (its's starting to get really cold where I am - 32 degress this morning.) Batik can sometimes look like tye dye so you might find the kind of patterns you want.

    I also just buy a little over a yard and sew the edges up. That makes them a 36" square that is just the right size. I also ordered a little cap from the ACS catalog that can go under scarves to make your head not look so flat. I think it helps.

    I thinks thats what I'll do. Making them is the way to go. I am getting a free silk headwrap scarf from Francelux.com. They give one to chemo patients. It's getting cold here by St. Louis, too. My hair is still not giving any indication of coming out, but I plan to get it cut this weekend. Thanks for ideas.

    You are going to absolutely LOVE the beautiful free headwrap! Laurie is doing an incredibly generous thing, and even more so because we each get to CHOOSE the one we like best! I requested one when I thought I would be having chemo (even got the port implanted). Well, it may still be in the future, so I have it put away until...
