mucous discharge from rectum

Anyone have a permanent colostomy. I am doing great from that ,but have a constant mucous discharge and have to where a pad.Went to the the surgeon yesterday and he said removal of the rectum is life threatening due to so much radiatiion.Wondering if anyone is dealing with this?

    I have drainage about every other day. I'm lucky enough that I have control and it just feels like I have to poop.

    discharge
    paid a visit to my surgeon yesterday to look at what was coming out of my sewn up rectum. He pulled something off me cos it hurt when it was removed. He also said I'm healing ok=had op 5 weeks ago tomorrow= but I still can't sit on **** for more than a few seconds at a time. Feel something seeping out occasionally but guess its normal for something like this.

    I had a discharge from my rectum untill all the stiches healed up.It took about 4 1/2 months after surgery to heal completely ,and had to wear a pad untill then.I still have trouble sitting for any period of time.Good luck

    Surgery
    I had a discharge after surgery also. As far as sitting, I had my surgery the end of March, and I still find it very difficult to sit long. I usually stand most of meal time and either lay on my side when on the couch, or sit on one cheek. Good luck and hope you feel better soon.

    Sitting tip:
    I had my rectum removed, but no colostomy. BUT, it was VERY uncomfortable to sit.

    So, I purchased a horseshoe shaped foam pillow (also used a neck pillow made for sleeping while traveling that worked, too, in a pinch) and took it everywhere with me...it made so much of a difference!

    I am now almost 5 years out...and I can even ride a bike (for an hour a day, while in Holland) with only a little bit of discomfort.
