Anal Cancer - After Effects of Treatment

CREAMS
I used a product called Bag Balm. This product was given to me by my radiologist. It is used on cow utters for chapping. It helped, and baths helped. At my 25th radiation treatment, I started using pain medication, which helped immensley. I was also given silver sulfadiazine cream when my 30 radiation treatments were completed. This is specifically for burns. Time seems to help the most. The burms are what the radiologist wants. I am now cancer free, and greatful for the burns. I know it hurts though. I wish you both well and your wife speedy recovery.0 -

Thank you. We also just realized (by reading the various posts on here) that no one on the medical staff told us NOT to put any cream on the body (specifically on the treatment area) no less than 4 hours before the day of Radiation. I think that this has made the situation worse than it would have been. Thanks again.0 -

My radiologist told me not to use any creams at all on the day of treatment. I had a great staff of caring people helping me. I'm sorry they didn't inform you both of not putting anything on the area the day of treatment. That really upsets me, because they are the ones who do this work on a daily basis. Well I hope it gets better fast.0 -
Casanovaw - re: burns
I too had 2nd and 3rd degree burns and had to be hospitalized. The wound care nurse
began a treatment of Vasolex ointment half strength mixed with Lidocaine ointment 2% the
Lidocaine helped topically with the pain and the Vasolex ointment helped get me started
on the path to healing. Vasolex is made by a company, Stratus pharmaceuticals. You may
need a Rx I am not sure. Pain medication was used, however I found nothing really
helped until the radiation stopped and I was about 7-8 days out from the last treatment.
This treatment along with many sitz baths and tepid tub baths to help keep the areas
clean.. put me on the path to getting my burns healed. ( also, she must eat high protein
foods and property hydration and diet )..I wish your wife a quick recovery.0
