    Liver Resection
    Hi Kristy,

I can happily report that I had a very successful liver resection in October 2004. The right lobe was totally removed (about 2/3). Surgery and recovery went without complications. 5 years later... my liver is looking great!

Your Mother is having surgery which will greatly improve her prospects for long term health and well being. Give her all my best.

    Hi Kristy
I had a major liver resection done (I think next week will be 5 years). They had to remove about 70% of my liver and it grew back to full functionality in the matter of months. As you probably already know it's the only organ that regenerates. It may not be the exact same size but it will work as good as new. I also had a HAI pump implanted that fed a steady drip of chemo right into my liver to clear up any stray cells that might have been cancerous. This is not always done but a few of us on here have had it done. I did have a bunch of other stuff done at the time but overall the recovery was not that bad and I have had absolutely no problems with my liver at all since that operation. All the best to your Mom Debbie, I'm sure she will get through this with flying colors. My thoughts are with you both Kristy.

    Mom's liver resection
    Kristy -

I had liver resection at the end of last October. It took me 3-4 months to get back up to speed, but I did. Best wishes to your mom. I am sure that she will come through great.

    Doing OK
I had liver resection last July and am currently NED; it was a
scarey time, especially when you think your battle is over and
it surprises you in a major organ.....diagnosed in 2004 with
stage 2, no lymph node involvement and chemo was not recommended,
then in 2008 found it in liver......the surgery is a zapper
and it will take time to regain balance again, then dealing
with the chemo which zaps you again but here i am still kicking....thank
    god, the journey tho hard was worth it! Keep the spirits up;
you both will make it thru.

    Liver resection
Yes, at diagnosis I had extensive mets from colon cancer. They were not resectable at diagnosis. After about 6 months of aggressive chemotherapy, including chemo directly to my liver through an HAI (hepatic arterial infusion) pump, the mets were resectable.

Your mother is very fortunate that her mets are resectable. I am certain that she will come through the surgery fine. Focus on helping her recover from the surgery so that she can move on to mop up chemo and hopefully NED. My recovery was kind of difficult and long - 3-4 months, so I am not saying that you should hurry her. Just try to keep positive and help her move in the right direction.

    Best wishes to your family.
