HI has anyone had a problem with an overactive tear duct from xeloda? My onc said it was the 5FU causing it. I look like I'm crying in one eye. Has anyone found a solution to this?? thanks for any info. This is a great site to ask questions and to find so many positive people. Thank you to everyone that visits!

had it
Hi,
I had a problem with my left eye constantly tearing when I was on Folfox and Avastin. I actually forgot about that until seeing your post today. I've done lots of chemo since then, including 5FU and Xeloda, but haven't had the tearing since the Folfox. Because of that, I attributed it to the oxalyplatin. Are you just on Xeloda, or are you taking something else too? Just curious since I didn't experience the tearing while just on Xeloda or now while on Folfiri, which includes the 5FU.
When I had it, it was definitely bothersome and I really didn't get much relief from it until I stopped getting the treatments. Wish I could be of more help in you getting some relief from it. If you haven't talked to your Dr. or nurses about it yet, definitely do so. You might even google natural remedies for tearing eyes and see if you find anything that way.
Best wishes,

Overactive tear duct on Xeloda
I can relate............ In 2005 I had 6 cycles of Xeloda etc and I never had that issue. But, I just completed another 6 cycles a few days ago and this time watering eyes (and dripping nose) has been a huge annoyance.
My onc tells me that Xeloda can actually be detected in tears and that many patients have contact lens issues with Xeloda. I personally can't wait for this particular side effect to resolve, although in the grand scheme of things it is minor (but hugely annoying, nevertheless).
