medical marijuana dispenseries raided in San Diego Co.
I just thought this might be of interest to some folks. I've never personally used medical marijuana, but I know some people on this board do. I had asked some about it lately. I know many claim it's about the only thing that really seems to work without side effects in nausea control and also in pain. It was on the front page of the newspaper today. San Diego county has apparently been against the voter initiatve awhile back that legalized medical marijuana dispensaries in the state & has been hoping the federal ban on marijuana would trump the state allowing it. The county never set up any guidelines and the Narcotics Task Force went in yesterday and shut down several sites and also made a few arrests of owners "illegally" selling pot. The article had a couple of people saying how angry they were, especially because it had been passed as legal in the state of California and that they felt it was "an assault against the sick and dying" (as supposedly only people with medical marijuana prescriptions can get it at the dispensaries).
I had actually toyed with the idea of trying it recently (after throwing up and being quite nauseated even after antinausea meds the past three times of getting chemo). I think not, though, with this happening now.

Don't you just LOVE it?
I wouldn't let it change your mind Lisa, if you can legally get it, try it. If people let the Gestapo tactics of the DEA go unchallenged, then we (cancer patients) get screwed again. It's bad enough we have cancer, this is yet another slap in the face. It's not illegal to buy it but they still go after the shops. They are too _______ (fill in the blank) to realize they could even make a TON of $$$$ if they tax it and let people use it. The "War on Drugs" will never be won, ever, so why make people who could benefit suffer more than we/they are.
I would never wish cancer on anyone, but if these "deciders" had cancer they'd be singing a different tune.
I hope you're feeling better Lisa.
I'll get off my soapbox (for now)

Lisa, I'm not sure why that
Lisa, I'm not sure why that should deter you. It's easily available, and in all states (except maybe Texas)it's considered only a misdemeanor if one has less than 15 grams in his/her possession. Also, your Doc can prescribe marinol, which is THC in pill form although it's not nearly as effective as the real thing. Sometimes there are laws that are not necessarily just, and, as Phil suggests, it may be ones moral obligation to protest those laws. For me, Marijuana was of enormous help in getting through my own suffering. It worked when no legal drugs were of any help. Statistics I've read suggest that over 70% of Americans have used mj, and I suspect that there are many people on this board who use it but are just too paranoid or reluctant to admit it.

No Fear
Hi Lisa,
We all have to stay within our comfort zone when making decisions but I hope this "raid" will not influence your decisions. It's my understanding that when they do raid the clinics, they are going after the owners...not the patients. The clinic I went to was in Orange County, CA and it was very professional. Just like a nice doctors office. You don't get the marijuana at the clinic they just give you your card that shows you are allowed to use and possess marijuana. Then you go to a dispensary to purchase it. I had a dispensary that would actully come to my home. It was funny, a briefcase full of different types of MJ with discriptions on each. Very nice person explained alot on how to use it and the different types. My husband and 22 year old daughter sat in on the "consultation" and then my sweet daughter went to a tobacco shop and bought me a pretty glass pipe. My immediate family was in on my decision to try it. They made me very comfortable and didn't make me feel like I was tempting them to try something that would be illegal. One son is a firefighter - he got me the information from a fellow firefighter on how to purchase it legally. My other son is a police officer and assured me that I wouldn't have any problems if I had my card. Of course I would not drive under the influence. I was able to use this wherever I went. If at a relatives house I would just go into a bathroom and use it. Otherwise I would g o out to my car. It was a lifesaver. I was able to enjoy my family rather than be in bed throwing up. Hope this helps aleviate any concerns you may have.
Please feel free to ask any questions.
Blessings to you,

Hi Nana b
I was naive also. My son got the info for me. Do you live in CA. If so you can look up medical marijuana on line and find it that way. If you can't I will try to find one for you.
I belong to an HMO and my doctors recommended it but are not allowed by the HMO to prescribe it. (crazy) soooo All you need is to take some of your medical records to the clinic with you and you actually see a doctor (they don't examine you) and they go over your records to determine if you are medically entitled to it Of course they charge about $100 to 150 for the consultation. If you don't have the money they will work with you. You then get a card that permits you to possess and use MJ. Then you have to go to a legal dispensary to get it. The clinic is not supposed to recommend a place but they will usually have you speak to the receptionist on the side. If they can't recommend, talk to anyone in the waiting room or again look on line. I actually found one that came to me.
Hope this works for you. It made a huge difference for me. Please ask any questions you might have.
