just trying to remember from past posts of yours- you aren't going to be on it for long before surgery, correct?
Had my surgery Aug 13th after my first round of Chemo and radation for 6 1/2 weeks was over. I'll be on my next round of chemo for 18 to 20 weeks0 -

well oxil is the one to kick butt
whole range of side affects that will probably hit you to some degree
they build up over treatments- perhaps your first one will be fine
my issues were with mouth sores (so bad at one point I was hospitalized, my mouth so swollen I couldn't get my teeth apart let alone talk)
neuropathy- in my hands and feet
fried taste buds- everything tasted like crap, even water
At about treatment 4 my onc started to reduce the oxil- and finally after my last hospitalization due to dehydration, he sttopped it all together. I believe that was treatment #8
I just got sicker and sicker with each treatment- really weak, sweaty, dizzy- took me longet to kick the affects, I really started to look and feel like a cancer patient.
When my onc came to see me in the hospital the last time his only comment was, "you are done with oxil".
It is a vile drug.0 -

Yes, I had 5 rounds of Folfox (Oxaliplatin & 5 FU & Leuvcovrin). While I did have some side effects, they were manageable and did not seem to be lasting. I took Ginger Capsules to prevent Nausea (some take the ginger root). I took Vitamin B6. I take Alpha Lipoic Acid which is from a study but can be purchased at Walmart. It is touted for preventing neuropathy. I drank a lot of water, juice, tea, juiced every other day, and took a complete multi-vitamin daily. I also took Ativan which helped the nausea and helped me sleep. My side effects were sensitivity to coldness (refrigerated foods), thinning of my hair, rash (I believe from the Leucovrin). I went to sleep when I was too tired to stay awake. Sleep helps the body. Everyone is different so you should let your doctor or nurses know right away if you have any symptoms. They will change your medication or lower your dose. Good luck and let us know how it goes for you.

I suffered from severe fatigue and seems that with every treatment it takes me longer to start feeling some energy. I had a reaction on #10, swelling and itching, needed steroids and benadryl, but did fine. Every time you get a dose it builds up in tour system, so the more you get the more chance of a reaction can happen.. I haven't had the neuropathy, my doc given me magnesium and calcium(IV) before and after each oxal. dose, it helps alot. They also told me that since I am only 36 that can be a benefit againest the neuropathy. I do get the cold sensitivities, can usually drink cold things about 5 days after infusion. I seem to have had mild symptoms compared to others. Very little nausea, but take meds when I need to. Best of luck to you....Petrina0 -
flowfox regimen
I started this 5fu and oxiliplatinum regimen in Jan. of 2006 for stage 3b colon cancer. It was not a walk in the park but they gave me meds to cope with the side effects and I remain NED. Think of it as jumping off the diving board when you were a kid. A little bit of apprehension but a goal in mind. Treatment by treatment you will kill the cancer. I still feel the the worst days were when our side was winning. You can do it.0
