Has anyone heard of this?

I have a friend that bought me Apricot seeds on the internet as a cure for cancer and my mother is driving me crazy about taking 4 Tablespoons of pureed asperagus twice a day. I know you can't believe everything on the internet but have any of you heard of anyone doing these alternative treatments?

snake oil
Hi Deb,
The asparagus puree has been found to have no value re cancer, although asparagus is a healthy veg. I think the disclaimer is on Snopes.
Dozens of years ago, the apricot pit curing cancer idea started going around.
It was called "Laetril" (sp?) at the time. It can be dangerous because it contains arsenic.
We'd be hearing of these "cures" all over the world, if they worked.
I think the best way to fight cancer is with a healthy diet to keep your body at it's strongest.
Good luck,

supplements and chemo don't mix
Nutritional supplements really can help slow down cancer, especially those made from dark fruits and vegetables (juice plus, for ex). However, these work by telling the body to flush itself out, so don't go beyond regular vitamins if you're on chemo. It could interfere with the effectiveness of the treatments.0 -
I agree
I agree with the other two ladies who answered your questions. I think that everything you think to take should be passed by your oncologist or GP or pharmacist because there are a ton of interactions that may inhibit the role of your cancer treatments. I never take anything in excess or cures from the internet unless I pass them by my docs and the answer is usually the same 'no' or 'it's up to you' which means 'don't take a chance'.
I believe that there probably are many things that grow naturally that can help with all kinds of afflictions but until we know for sure and they have been studied they could do more harm than good.
Just be very careful. Blessings, Bluerose0
