I am wanting to attend a b/c fundraiser and I need your input and help. I know that ACS does a great deal for individuals and groups that need help and the Koman seems focused on research. Do I have that right? If you have participated in these events, would you please let me know which one you liked best, or what your experience was like? I really need your input, ladies and gents.

Thank you,
Donna

    They're both very worthy organizations
The ACS is involved with a great deal of research and development, Donna. We just talk here on the board mostly about their patient support services. For example, the ACS funded ALL the R&D money needed to develop Tamoxifen - the very first, ever, BC medication proven to reduce the risk of recurrence. This is also why Tamoxifen is inexpensive, affordable to all. No drug company needed to recoup expenses. The ACS is also the oldest and largest anti-cancer organization in the world.

In my mind, the biggest difference is that the ACS works for all types of cancer. Komen is focused on BC, only. I think many of us support both, or more than one - including others. I do, just in different ways.

    Kind regards, Susan

    Hey Donna
There isn't a Komen Relay around my area. But, there is the Relay For Life in every county. I went to my first one this year and it was amazing! I will never forget it. The ACS does so much for the people around here inre to helping with rent, free wigs, getting people rides to doctors and treatment, getting their prescriptions paid and delivered to them, just lots of stuff. I am not aware of what the Komen foundation does inre to actually just getting down and helping an individual.

I have volunteered and was accepted to give people rides to treatment when I am stronger. I might also do some Reach for Recovery work thru them.

It is just good to give back and I feel the ACS is the best inre to support for cancer patients/survivors!

Hi Donna. Well, just look at this site and that should almost make up your mind. How kind they are to have this for cancer patients and survivors. And, if you go to the Susan B. Komen site on the net, half of the info is outdated if you notice the dates on it. ACS all the way for me!
