Question about clinical trials at National Cancer Institute or MD Anderson or Baylor
I have had stage 4 colon cancer for about 2 and a half years now with liver involvement. I have been on FOLFOX, FOLFIRI and Vectobix. My doctor is now suggesting I go away for a trial, either to the NCI in Maryland or to MD Anderson in Houston. I mentioned to him about going to Baylor in Dallas since I have family there. Does anyone have experience with going to Maryland or to Houston - mainly I'm concerned about where I would stay while there and about how long I might be there. My doc and I did not discuss the specifics - I'll learn more after they find something that I qualify for. I still continue to work full-time, but know I will have to take a leave-of-absence if I have to go away. Hope to hear from some of you soon. Take care. R

Hope Lodge
There is a Hope Lodge in Nashville ran by the American Cancer society where you can stay for free if referred by your doctor. I would get in contact with the American Cancer Society and see if there is something like that there. I am sure there has to be something. Also there are social worker who can recommend places to stay that are as inexpensive as 15 dollars a day. Also you might check on both of the hospital's website..they made have lodging information on them. Hope this helps. Good luck and will keep you in our prayers.

Thanks Anna for the information and advice. I think too there is probably some place to stay at both of these facilities. I'll find out more if this is what works out for me and I'll contact ACS. I appreciate your reply. Roy0 -

I do not know why they are sending you for clinical trial but maybe if you would like to read my husband's story ...just click on the amcp in blue. Frank was stage four with mets to liver and lung. No hope ..sent to Vanderbilt for clinical trial and the great and wonderful surprise we got after going to Vandy. Hope this gives you a new hope on the situation.

I read you and your husband's story. He and you have been through a lot. My doc hasn't mentioned Vanderbilt, but I can certainly ask him about it. There's also a place in Tulsa (Southwest Medical Center I think it is) that I've heard about. I have hope that something good will work out. I'll post more later when I have updates. Take care, Roy0
