Awhile...
I was told to wait to be around anyone for a week and a half just to be sure everything was out of my system. And be sure that no one uses the bathroom after you before it's all cleaned up and everything. It's so hard to have to stay away from people that long! Be sure you have plenty to do while you are waiting it out0 -

My dosage was very low .05RAI for my 1 yr follow up WBS. I did'nt have any restrictions at all after the treatment. This was in April 09.

RAI I-131 is given in large
RAI I-131 is given in large doses for ablation (and requires isolation after) as well as small doses for diagnostic scans (no isolation required). It sounds like you will be getting the small dose.0 -

Thank you. That sounds like good news. How did it come out? Are you OK?
My wbs was clean. It was'nt hard, no side effects from the RAI. Just a pain going in each day for the shots and pill. I received my results the very day of my wbs. Which was better than having to wait a week or so. I thank the God above every day. Hope yours turns out the same.
thanks fo asking!

I just completed my annual body scan with thyrogen shots days 1 & 2, RAI 4MC on day 3 and scans 6 hours later on day 3 and the bloodwork will be tomorrow morning. I was told no restrictions with that dose. I have already had huge doses 85mc, where I am secluded for days. I believe the diagnostic dose, there are no restrictions. I am cautious when I use the bathroom and around food. I was diagnosed in 1996 with pappilary cancer, had a full neck dissection, returned in my lymph nodes both sides in 2001 and returned (or remained) on my vocal cords in 2004. Three surgeries and the third also took my right vocal cord. (Hershey) My full body scans have all been negative, although cancer was found in 2001 and 2004. My thyrogobulin was detected. I truly believe that going hypo is a better test for me. I cna't get the doctors to agree, they perfer the $1000's for they thyrogen and scans. At one time my insurance did not cover the thyrogen and just went hypo and thyrogobulin was undetectable. Now I have a lump. One endo Doc said it was cancer by looking at it. (Right?) Going to another endo now, following lump with this body scan.0 -

What stage were you when diagnosed? that would have to do with how old you were when diagnosed and how spread the cancer was. How high was your last tg? I am wondering how your doctor knows immediately that it is cancer?0 -

Not sure what stage back in 1996. My thyroid was destroyed and totaling filled, surrounded with cancer, including some lymph nodes on both sides. I was 34 years old and the Doctor told me then, that my thyroid was not functioning correctly for years. Looking back, could this explain weight gain, trouble conceiving, never able to grow nails without breaking, tired all the time. I was given soy milk as an infant, who knows? That Dr. seemed to think it was all related.??? My last thyrogobulin was undetectable, I just had bloodwork this morning to finish out this annual repeat scan. My old Dr., whom I no longer go to found my last recurrent lymph in 2004 and said it looked suspicious via ultrasound, therefore we did a biopsy and it was positive. Last year when he found another lump, he suspects cancer again, I will not have a biospy done by him (torture) he would not send me anywhere else and said he would order a 200 Mci Scan. That of course never happened, need proof first.
So I am here, do I have cancer or not. My tsh is suppressed at .1 to 1.0 and nothing ever higher.0 -
