Radioactive

My husband just got his first PET scan done and although everyone we're working knows we have a 2 year old and infant twins, it wasn't until he was walking out the door after the scan that they told him "By the way, you're radioactive so stay about 6 feet away from babies for 4-6 hours."

WHAT?!?

Apparently one of the life lessons I am learning with all of this is "go with flow". Luckily we have enough help today to cover the radioactive period. Good grief.

Love these little tidbits we learn along the way. Anyone else ever have any random "by the way" moments during your cancer journey? I have a feeling this is just the beginning of them!

    Hi Zig

That's a new one to me. They never told me anything like that and I've had more PETs than I can remember.

Is it to be away from infants and children, or is it adults too?

You learn something new everyday it seems...thanks for sharing that. :)

    They only mentioned babies
They only mentioned babies but I still nurse and we didn't know about our 2 year old. Can't say I really wanna receive any myself either so looks like he'll spend the afternoon locked up in our room... Does it count as quality time together if you're talking through a closed door? :)

    Radioactive
I have gotten a "Get out of Jail Free" card from them a few times from them just in case I triggered a sensor or two. It explained that I had a radioactive seed in me. I was also told to flush twice after I peed so this way it wasn't the in the bowl.

I hope that he doesn't glow in the dark :) Have him blow kisses to the kids - I know it's not the same. Good luck on the scan.

    oh yes
and by the way,i have had lots of those.right after doing 5 wks of radiation and xeloda they said i would feel better in 2 wks.well in 2 wks my surgen put me in the hospital for 6 days pumping fluid in me.no one told me what a iliostomy really was,all i knew is it would be temporary for 5 wks.after my surgery an ostomy nurse came in to tell me how to change the bag.when i saw it for the first time they failed to mention that this stoma is actually your small intestine sticking out of your stomach i could not even look at it.my point being is these doctors dont tell you everything you kinda have find out on your own,and it is frustrating.good luck to your hubby if he does glow in the dark let us know Goddbless....johnnybegood
