Please keep us posted as I will be starting Tamoxifen next month and I am keeping my eyes open on what is working if I should need an antidepressant. It's been 15 years since I was on one and I went through 8 of them before Paxil finally worked (and quickly too!). But now Paxil is a no-no. Hope this works for you. ♥ Pammy
Thanks Pammy. I will dfinitely let you know how it works out! Eil0 -

Pammy,
I was on Paxil about 25 years ago and I think it helped me at that time (although it could have also been due to the great counselor I was seeing). Since then I have been on and off antidepressants (currently off). About four or five years ago I was going through some bad times (lots of deaths) and my counselor put me on Zoloft. This worked a little but when she increased the dose I became horribly angry and had daily thoughts of suicide. When I told the counselor she said "we can try something else", but by then I had made up my mind that I needed to get control back over my life. I took myself off the Zoloft, stopped seeing the counselor and have been off any medication since then.
I'm certainly not saying that people should not be on antidepressants. I know many people who function much better from being on them and am glad they are helped. All I want to point out is that each person should communicate with their doctor or therapist if they feel the antidepressant is causing them problems. Medications and dosages can really affect some people if they are changed by even a small amount.0 -
Thanks Jan, so much for yourphoenixrising said:Dear Eil, I am so sorry this
Dear Eil, I am so sorry this whole experience has taken such a toll on you. I certainly know what it's like to be depressed. I did take citalopram for a few weeks but went off it as it made so much more tired than I already was. My doc wanted me to stay on it longer but I just hated sleeping all the time and the depression lifted. So my se weren't really bad and some people do just fine. Try it and see, you can always go off it later or try something else. I'm glad you're going to therapy. I think it helps to find a place for our fears and anxiety because there is no denying the dangers of bc, but hopefully they can help you put it in such a perspective that allows you to carry on and find joy in your life. All my best to you sweetie,
hugs

Thanks Jan, so much for your encouragement. I hope too that I can get back to my old self. Life is way too short to be unhappy. Oh btw, I love the picture of your cat--he/she is beautiful! I am a cat lover myself. hugs, Eil0 -

I hope the anti depressants works for you..I have had the same fears as you but I also have a abnormal fear of drugs...So I end up having panic attacks... I tried a therapist before my surgery and ended up couseling her!!! She was having surgery the same day as me on her heart and that was all we talked about!!!
I am thinking of you and I hope and pray the anti depressants work soon... I pray you find something today that makes you smile and laugh!!! laughing is a very good healer of your inner self...
BIG HUGZ.... Calleen
Calleen, thanks for your wonderful reply! Boy, thats funny about your therapist! You counseling her.....I hope you are well now. I know what you mean about having a fear of meds. I filled my prescription a montha ago and just started taking it 2 days ago. I was worried about side effects. But, I must think about me quality of life too. I have not been my old self since my cancer and that was 3 yrs ago. Time to do something,

Hi, Ohilly - I am so happy to read your post! : ) xoxoxo Lynn
Lynn, at first I didn't think the Lexapro was working because I would still have days when I cried uncontrollably, but I think it was just my body getting used to the higher dose. More than a week has gone by on the therapeutic dose and I feel fine. So keep your fingers crossed. Hope you are also doing okay on your anti-depressants.
