Pulmonary Embolism and Infected Port

Had both at once and ended up in intensive care last week. Now they're saying I can never have a port again and I have to get a picc line instead. Does anyone have a picc line and do I have a choice on where it's placed? I had a temporary one in the hospital and I was miserable with it.

sorry to hear that. I have
sorry to hear that. I have never had a picc line but have taken care of patients who had one. You can ask whoever is doing it if they can put it in a certain spot, but it will mainly determine on the best site they find for placement.. Hopefully they can put it in your non-dominant arm... Best of luck.0 -
Sorry to hear that!
My last chemo was yesterday. A few weeks ago my onc told me to schedule my port removal any time after this week. I'm waiting out my two weeks in case any WBC's or platelets were to drop.
Have only heard of a pic line but did see a lady in the store with a permanent iv type thing on her arm, all covered with clear taping like the port.
Hope this works out well for you!0 -
Had a picc line....
I had a picc line for my chemo. It's not too bad - the worst part was wrapping it in press n' seal before a shower. I cut the foot off of a sock and used that to keep the lines in place. I did have to have my husband inject heparin into the line to keep it open but that is just once a day and easy to do.0 -
pick line
Hi,
I'm new to this board, have been visiting for about a month and think it's wonderful. I got a pick line in the hospital after my resection. It was in my right upper arm on the inside. It was a wonderful change from the infiltrating iv's. It lasted thru all my chemo so from Oct 14th thru July. It was a little difficult to negotiate for showers etc. but that was the least of my problems ha.)
I wish I would have found this board when I was in treatment. It's a real blessing.
Thanks to all who share from the heart here.
