Hello, my name is Sherron. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer Aug 08', had surgery the same month. Besides removing everything, they had to scrape my intestines to remove the little spots where it had burst. I went to chemo every 3 weeks for 6 hours. They decided to put in a stomach port and it got infected. It tunneled and made 3 openings on my stomach. It was removed but then we had to stop chemo until these 3 wounds healed. They required packing 3 times a day which my husband did when the nurses weren't at my house. It was about 5 inches deep to reach all the spots. It wasn't healing that good so I had to have a wound vac on for 4 weeks to remove the infection. We started chemo back to equal 6 treatments.I weighed 157 lbs before this all started, got down to 98 lbs because I couldn't keep anything down at all!! My last chemo was May 7th, 2009. Had my CT done, blood work and everything came back negative. I just turned 50 yrs old in May and I'm up to 145 lbs. Of course, every hair I had was now gone but I couldn't bring myself to buy a wig. I wore a hat for a while and about 2 months ago I decided one day to just keep it off. I do have some fuzz coming back, my eyebrows are grown back as well as my lashes. I feel so blessed to have this 2nd chance and I thank God every day for the strength, courage and a loving husband that I have. I don't need to go back until Oct and have more blood drawn but I am keeping my hopes up that it's gone forever. I send my love, blessings and prayers to all!! Never lose faith!!

Hi Sherron, I can empathize with you because I've been dealing with OVCA and I know how hard it is..
I've been dealing with it for 2 1/2 years since i was 63.
I had optimal debulking surgery, staged 4B with mets. to the lymph nodes.
I had a chest port installed and carbo/taxol for 4 months.
Yes you lose all your hair, and chemo knocks the heck out of you. Thankfully they have a drug to counter every side affect.'
I did buy a wig on impulse, wore it twice and never again. I wore caps or kerchiefs and that was fine for me. My hair grew back curlier than it had been, that was a surprise.
I also lost lots of weight and gained most of it back after chemo, food just tasted better as your body starts to heal.
My remission was short, only 4 months then I started Topotecan that worked for 10 months. Thankfully there are lots of chemo drugs for treating OVCA, don't get worried because you'll meet lots of ladies on this forum who've been in remission for years!
When you finished your chemo in May and you got good news with your CA and CT, I know you and your husband were so very happy!
Stay well, and have good results with your tests in Oct.

Thank you Thank you Thank you
My mother has been told about the spots everywhere. She is going to have chemo 6 hours every 3 weeks. They are then going to do surgery...and put in a port. Just like you!!! I have been desolate until I read your post!!!! Thank you so much for writing. Please keep sending us messages of hope and I will pray that you stay cancer free!!!!! I cannot tell you how much your post meant to me tonight. I am 10 days into this and feeling overwhelmed and you made my day!! God Bless you!! Lisa0 -
Great Results
Praise the Lord for your wonderful results ~ Prayers that you continue to dance with NED for a long long long time. :-) I have lost my hair several times and sometimes it grows back curly and sometimes straight as can be. I have tried a couple wigs too and didn't like them at all, now I am comfortable enough to go bald and if it's cool enough then a colored bandana or pretty scarf. Someone asked me saturday why I don't get a wig. :-)
I have been doing this for 6yrs 8mnths and feel pretty good most of the time. I pray your cancer is gone forever also. My sister has never gotten it back ~ she had ovarian cancer also. Hugs ♥ Prayers ♥ Praises BonnieRose0 -

Hi, what great results. May you continue to stay NED forever. I was diagnosed Feb.2008 stage 3c. I was on chemo until June 2009 and then just had 18 treatments of radiation for a tumor.I lost all my hair when I was on chemo , I wore a wig for awhile but then just wore hats.
Hugs and Prayers, Terry0
