Hi Michelle
That's sort of tough. I would pursue other methods of healing like eastern ones. Acupuncture, Reiki, and I'm sure the list goes on. I would not subject my child (or grandchild fi I live that long..) to something that would give them cancer. The cure is worse than the disease it seems in this case. I read that people on Enbrel face "may have a higher chance for getting lymphoma"
My opinion.

I just saw this. There seems to be a lot online about it if you Google it.0 -

The disease was bad for her more than 30 joints were affected she could barley walk but like i said she is almost normal i have talked to elizabeth the mother about this about a year ago she said she talked to the the dr and he said that it was not provin but yesterday in the health news there it was again about cancer using drugs for jra chrons and inflammatory bowel disorder in children may give them cancer.I am sure if my grandaughter didn't take those injections she would be crippled, But again cancer is very bad ,And i am only the grandma so i will show elizabeth the article and hope she will talk to the dr again.

RA in children
I'm sorry to hear about your grandaughter, you have been thru so much lately.
I know a little baby who at 1yr was diagnosed and it was painful just watching her try to walk. She is on the same meds as you granddaughter and she now is able to walk where before when she tried, she could barely stand on her toes. I was diagnosed with rhematoid arthritis after I finished chemo and before I was diagnosed (which was last summer),I was barely able to walk or do much,I felt like I was 150 yrs old. I've been on meds for 10 months now plus I take fish oil and it's much better but not totally gone. It's still painfully so my heart goes out to anyone especially a child that has to deal with this. You really have to weigh out the odds.
I was on hormone replacement at one time which they say raises your risk of breast cancer, but lowers your risk of cc.I didn't get breast cancer but I did have cc, so you just really never know.
Best of luck to you and your grandaughter.0 -
Hmmmm
I think I would want the child to 'live' normally as long as she can. To be crippled with JRA all of her life or possibly have cancer many years from now..... Methotrexate (brand names Rheumatrex, Trexall) can also cause cancer and liver or kidney damage, or so I've been told by a woman in church who is getting this.
I would probably choose to let her take the meds.0 -
Michelle - I Think This Will Help You
Here's something for you, Michelle, that might be of help to you. I would like for you to explore this option.
I read your post and remembered a lady who has RA and so I asked her for advice, so that I could give this to you.
She used to take the Methotrexate, but she found another doctor who put her on ANTIBIOTICS instead - specifically DOXYCYCLINE and MINOCIN.
Here is a website that you can log on to and/or join. It is called the ROAD BACK FOUNDATION.

There appears to be some pretty good information there, and I saw these drugs mentioned. I'm thinking this would allow your granddaughter to live a better life and not have to worry about getting Cancer as the results of the meds she is taking.
I know you have been through so much and when I read your post, I knew I would be able to offer you some kind of help. So, I really hope that this helps you and her out. Please let me know how things go.
God Bless You
