Bleeding while chemo or radiation

Has anyone continued with chemo or radiation while having bleeding problems probably resulting from hemorrhoid? My Dad sees a little fresh blood on his wipes once a while and he just finished his second round of chemo. Can you have a hemorrhoid surgery while on chemo and/or radiation for cancer treatment?

    Doubtful for Surgery
    Hi

Surgery is going to be highly doubtful when you are in the middle of treatments for either chemo or radiation or both simultaneously. Your oncologist would have to confer with the surgeon to talk about it - and unless it was an emergency, I would not count on it.

Has he had colon surgery recently? Or done a colonsocopy?

You mention he is doing chemo, but not if he's doing radiation. If he were doing radiation, it would be possible to have bleeding episodes - as the tumor is radiated, the intestinal ling can slough off and end up in the commode along with some blood - I've seen that personally...very shocking but that's what happens.

Now, if it's just chemo...I don't recall it like that...would note this to your onc for the record.

If he had done surgery, then that might explain some of it. I had several leaks all through my intestinal tract from one side to another after resection. Took multiple scopes to cauterize those areas.

What it could be is Anal Fissures...the skin at the end of the rectum can develop fissures and they can periodically bleed and then stop...and heal up...and then it can happen again.

But I had radiation and a resection, so I had that...it finally went away but took me a few years...they really jacked me up and my recovery was rough.

Just could be fissures...sounds like there is not a great volume of blood, but anything fresh always get your attention....just run it by the onc, he'll probably want to do an exam and take a look.
