Does this just happen after mastectomy or is it caused by doing or not doing something? I hear so much about women getting this. I've had 13 lymph nodes removed and am worrying about this.

    I had it too, but it seems to have blown itself out now. I hope you don't get it, It hurts. I had it after lumpectomy and lymph node removal.

    I have a good friend who has this now. Her doctor said to wait it out. She said its like a size "A" cup, but will eventually drain out. He told her it was because she had problems with the drainage after her mastectomy.

    It is common
    There are a lot of old threads about lymphadema. I have a very mild case of it. I saw a physical therapist who showed my self massage and did some massage. I also have a lymphadema sleeve on order.

    If you have had any lymph nodes removed you have a risk of developing lymphadema. There is a good web site: www.lymphnet.org

    You can get good information and advice from them. The important thing is to catch it early so watch for any swelling in your hand, arm or side (under arm pit) on the side where your lymph nodes were removed.

    I went to lymphedema.com. It has a lot of info. And, it is best to catch it early if you do have it Maryann!
