lip sores
Just when we thought he wouldn't get them he did. John has two large sores on the inside of his lip. The papers we have say to keep your mouth clean (duh) and salt mixed with soda in water.
Does anyone have other suggestions? I will call the Doc in the morning. Damn Chemo!!

Magic Mouthwash
I haven't had the mouth sores but I have seen on here where people get a prescription for "Magic Mouthwash" from the oncologist. Also, you can go to the pharmacy and ask for an alcohol free mouthwash. Others will respond who have more info.0 -
Oh yeah Magic MouthwashPamPam2 said:magic mouthwash
I found that the magic mouthwash script was the greatest. It always worked really quick for me, like overnight. Just ask your onc. for it.

You must get Magic Mouthwash that stuff is amazing...It taste nasty but it numbs your mouth and the sores go away pretty much the next day...It kills the stinging and soreness rightaway...It makes being able to deal with treatment a smidge better...Good luck Julie0 -
lip sores
When i had lip sores last time I had to use carmex for my pain...it has a pain reliever in it that numbs the sores for a while to eat and drink through a straw. I know some people were told not to put petrolium on their lips because it dries them out but it helped me a great deal. I put it on the blisters with a q tip. Thanks, Patti0 -

Lip sores
How are your husbands lip sores now? Mine seem to be getting worse. They start just about when the others clear up. Usually about the day i come off my 46 hr. 5FU pump. I have tried just about everything. I have what my oncologist gave me...similar to Magic Mouthwash. A lidocaine mixture called BMX to swirl and swallow. And liquid Carafate. I have tried salt and baking soda liquid. Everything. I have about 5 on my inside lip now. Do i call them canker sores or cold sores. I don't want my dosage reduced. I just want some relief. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Mary0 -

John's lip sores are gone right now. His inside lip looked pretty bad for about four days. They looked like canker sores but his poped like bisters. I did get him magic mouthwash but they were gone when the onc called it in. He just got the pump on today so he is going to use it at the first sign of a sore. Everyone says it works well. Maybe you should ask for the real thing or ask if they have something else. They look very painful. I hope you get relief soon. The PA that he saw today mentioned L-Lysine tablets. You can get them at health food stores. He tried them but the pills are as big as your leg and he had a hard time getting them down. He even cut them in half and they were still hard. Paula G.0 -
Powder for Sores
My doctor gave me the mouthwash but also when they got bad, she gave me a prescription for a compound that was made at the pharmacy. It is a powder and I have to "puff" it on my lips with a small accordian type tool. It sounds weird but it really helped. I think it was called DAT.0
