back to work
I went back to work today for the first time since last Monday.(Last Monday I went in and wound up sick the rest of the week with a sore throat) When I arrived a couple of the girls came over and asked if they could talk to me outside. I thought it was kind of weird but I went outside with them. They presented me with 3 envelopes. Two were cards signed by everyone and one was full of cash! My co workers had taken up a collection for me to buy a wig! I had looked at wigs but the good ones were so expensive I was not sure whether I should spend the money. I only work part time so I don't get short term disability. When I miss work I don't get paid, and I have missed quite a bit in the last few months. I cried and had the two girls crying with me. I feel so guilty for accepting this money but I couldn't very well refuse. I am really touched by the caring and generosity of my co workers. What an amazing group of people!

Elm - How touching!
What a beautiful touching g i f t! And, you have to take it. It would hurt their feelings if you didn't. You must be a very special person to have your coworkers do this for you. You have obviously touched them in a way that they wanted to return the favor.
Thru this adventure of bc, we find some beautiful, touching, rare and magical moments, that would not have happened or occured otherwise. And, one of those moments is when you realize how much people care and love you. How far people will go to help you out or offer you something, anything.
Your friends/coworkers just offered you more than a card, more than money, they offered you their love and hands in friendship and faith.
Thank you for sharing this wonderful story Elm!

It sounds like you work with a great group of people. I, too, was overwhelmed by the kindness of the people that I work with: both inside our company and those that I communicate with in other companies. It seemed as though it was the notes and gifts from people that I don't see every day that often touched me the most.
We'll be looking forward to seeing you with your new wig. It will help to engulf you in the love that made it possible.

Isn't it wonderful how some people can be so kind, so thoughtful to us? It lets you know that there are people still out there with caring hearts.
I love these posts! We need more of them!

What an amazing tribute~ not
What an amazing tribute~ not just to you ( who obviously richly deserve it!) but to the loving kindness of your co-workers. A wise soul once told me that no matter how large or small, it is imperative to "accept the kindness of strangers"; that generosity and empathy may be their only way to show us how united they are in spirit. So many of us have sadly found our circle of friends dwindling at the time of dx; or at the very least, an embarrassment and a lack of feeling feeling oftentime prevails. That your co-workers obviously spent time and energy showing how much they care tells us something wonderful about them and you! You have given us all a much needed lift! Thanks so much for sharing!
